Heads anyone?

What do you think.....wondering if I should add a set of Trick Flow heads. Looking to see if I can make 350 rwhp with them with my setup.

Anyone here use them?

Tuff 4.6 is trying to get his hands on a set. But I don't know anyone who actually has them on there car yet. Please be the first to do so :)

I have a VERY reliable source who tells me I will get 350-360 to the tires with them with my set-up. Seems intriging. $2,000 for the heads, but labor is a bit of a bitch as I have LT's. I would also need another tune. BUT, 360 rwhp n/a would be nice. I was running 375 with the blower and the car would be very reliable.

Don't temp us with thoughts of high Hp n/a 2v's!!!

Modular depot had a car make like 348rwhp with a lower compression then stock motor and bolt on's with cams.

I think Trick Flow has come up with a good head for us 2V guys. I have only heard good so far, hp numbers are in the 35-40 range and a couple of 48's, with some still left on the table.

My concern is, like with any new product, whats it going to do 10k miles from now. Has anyone run them HOT? are they leaking? did they crack? I say after the first of the year would be a good time to get a set. Hopefully any problems that are going to surface will have surfaced and addressed by the manufacturer. These heads are being gobbled up by every Mustang owner in the world. I am going to lay back and watch it from the pourch for a little while. If all goes well then get a set and if not we still have Livernois and all the others. I have also heard that ARP head studs are a MUST.

I think your 350 rwhp is low by todays standards, I think 400 is very do-able with whats out there, all you have to do get the right combo. It may not be a DD but a 400 horse weekend driver would be sweet.

Wait till R3d gets a set for his 5.4

You'll get REALLY close to 350rwhp with your cams and set of TFS heads if not right at it. Plan to spin the motor to 6800rpm or higher... may need more aggressive valve springs but you have a good cam for it. You'll be making use of those 4.10's finally. I'd do it. But then... I'd also slap a 5.4 block under them hehe.

White04GT 08-27-2009 11:06 AM

I say do it. My tuner is currently trying to get his hand on like 6 set's right now. One of thoughs is for my car! My block is finished up, My kb 2.6 has been sitting around for a while now waiting for these damn heads to ship out. I want my car back!

WaterDR 08-27-2009 03:50 PM

These heads are definately intriguing.

TUFF 4.6 08-27-2009 08:49 PM

Its fun trying to get to 350 or 400 the old fashioned way aint it? :D

spike_africa 08-28-2009 06:04 AM

From what I have seen I don't think 400rwhp 2v's that can be street driven are going to happen. They only got 333rwhp out of a stock motor 2v. Granted that was with somewhat mild cams and stock compression, but still. That's a lot of power to make up to get to 400rwhp. With ported the heads, more aggressive cams, and a better intake manifold I think 370rwhp 2v's can happen.

I agree that it wont be a daily driver.

It will have to be forged and appox 12.0 -1 compression with racing gas. I may have to spend my life's fortune of $7.13 to prove it. :D

How sweet would that be to have that at the wheels with a little 281 2v OHC motor.

r3dn3ck 08-28-2009 07:40 AM

none of those motors took advantage of the much improved tolerance to compression from the new chamber design. I think once people get their cocks out of their ass and brave up a bit they're gunna pop a set of 12:1 slugs in there and 400rwhp 2v's are going to start pissing off cobra drivers and LS1's and they'll do it on 93 octane. Most street driven stangs with motor work done are so goddamned mildly built it's disgusting. Once the drag race community has a couple seasons with the new heads I'm pretty sure that 1, the prices will come down about 500-700 bucks, and 2 ported versions will be flowing 310 and strokers are going to get really popular really fast.

EDIT: The sick flow is also the downside... 281 inches is just too little to make the power at reasonable rpm. Thus the 5.4 and 5.0/5.1/5.3 stroker markets are going to double.

Lazerred6 08-28-2009 08:57 AM

Or 5.5 like yours
