help! grinding t-45!

love the stang, but this is a problem that needs to be fixed. i have a 97 GT with the T-45 tranny with 61K miles on it. everytime i put it into reverse it grinds, the pedal is all the way in, the stick all the way over, the actiona very smooth, and yet it grinds EVERY time! also, sometimes when i shift from 1st to 2nd (again w/pedal in all the way, smooth and proper operation) i get a big grinding noise. almost like i missed the gear completely. i know how to drive a stick and am doing everything right but still get grinding. any ideas? could it be an adjustment in the clutch? could the clutch not be disengaging all the way? or is it the tranny and expensive? thanks

I have an 03 that in colder weather does the same thing from 1st to 2nd. If you do a google search for nhtsa site you can look up the service bullitins or recalls on the call. I seen several peeps of my year complaining of the same thing but Ford has done nothing.

Adjust your clutch and report back :headbang:

Adjust your clutch OR...

Your transmission synchros are going bad. Its common with that transmission, as mine needs it two. My 4th gear doesnt like to be shifted into quickly. It grinds like a mother. If I shift slowly though, no grind at all.

There are not too many, if any, rebuild kits at all for the T45 in the department of synchros. If you adjust your clutch and think that its not doing anything, then you need to have someone open up your transmission and evaluate the condition of the parts that are in there.

I can shift quickly just fine, it just dont like cold weather.....has nothing to do with the clutch, its all syncros on mine. Ill just buy a new one next year for $1,300 instead of paying the same thing to have new syncros put in.

you have the 3650 tranny. There is a TSB out for it for grinding when cold ford will rebuilt that tranny and add a new lower fill level for free if you have warrenty which you most likly do.

I think they extended that warranty due to this problem in the first place.

Nope only free if you have the 3 year 36k warrenty left.
