Looking at a 02 gt need advice
 

found this really nice 02 gt....but it has the Eibach sportlines and it is causing the 295s in the rear to be owned by the fender. If i were to switch them out to 285s would it eliminate the tire rubbing or would i either have to change out the springs or roll the fenders?

and when i mean i found one i mean i went a drove it and everything. Havent given him an offer though. Car is alittle overpriced especially with the tire issue that will cost me like 400+ for that. Still going to send it to a mechanic if i decide to go through with it

Need more info than that. IIRC the sportline springs have about a 2" drop both front and rear. 295-285 tires with a rim size of? 18" 19" 20"

I'd also take a look at the rear shocks. Do the wheels always rub or just going over bumps etc. If the shocks are bad or weak the springs will compress more than with good shocks which may be causing the rubbing.

Personally I'd switch the springs to a set with less drop and a higher rate. Others on here can reccomend which are the best. There is a thread about it somehere as well. More than likely that will cost less than a new set of quality tires.

it has the 18 chrome y2k cobra rims on there. The shocks are the ilumina's by tokico. They look to be in really good condition. The test drive was amazing, there wasn't any squashing of the rear and the ride was pretty stiff like the sportlines should. The only time they rubbed when we went sideways up a parking lot driveway. All of the bumps we went over didnt have any affect on the rubbing, but we didnt go over any speed bumps.

Was it rubbing on the inside of the fender? If so you should be able to get spacers to prevent that. Sounds like a nice ride. What happened to the one in your sig.

295's on a 9" rims is pushing the limits of being too wide for the rim...when i had 18X9's on my car i ran 285/35 tire in the rear and a 275 up front.

since it rubbed when the car went sideways i would look into purchasing new DELRIN bushings for the LCA and UCA's or just buy aftermarket control arms and that should eliminate the tires rubbing the fenders and getting cut up.

It is rubbing on the outside of the tire. The one in my sig was my v6..sold that on saturday


im waiting to here back from the owner of the mustang shop over where i live. Thanks for the information. I really want this ride and it road like a million bucks compared to my rattle trap of a v6 i just sold. But the tire rubbing has my dad concerned about going through tires like no other or spending ore money right off the bat for modifying it. These are the upgrades for it

the short throw shifter was amaaazing lol not to mention it sounds killer

If you like it that much just buy it and swap out the springs for a spring that offers less of a drop. It won't cost that much but if your stuck and love the ride the just roll the fenders, problem solved.
