Tinting the Turn Signals
 

Hey Everyone,
On my 2007 v6 one small change I'v been hoping to make was to tint the amber blinker on the front of the car. Stylistically I would prefer them blacked out.
I have no experience with tinting...My question is will a can of spray tint give the "blacked out" look on on an amber turning signal? Or do I need a film tint?

The spray or a film tint will work, I've heard good and bad from both. I'm not 100% sure, but you might get pulled over if you black out your head lights with spray. If you can do without it being totally black, my suggestion would be to buy some smoked headlights, and then here's a link to some Chrome turn signal bulbs, which will help reduce that amber color in your headlight.

Does anyone know the level of difficulty involved in taking out the entire blinker lamp? I do not feel confident I can spray an even coat of tint the whole way across the lights and into the coners without removing the lamp. Its an 07 stock blinker.

By any chance does the yellow, amber plastic face of the light snap off?

Finally, a question I can answer with absolute certainty! :D

If you use the spray tint, you'll have to mask the area off to avoid overspray, at least that's what other members have told me.

If you look in my sig, I have tinted my turn signals. I didn't bother with the spray or taking out my light housing. I went to Autozone and got some 2.5% limo black tint. I took some of that white masking tape and put it over the light. It was a pain in the ass to get the tape level. I took the tape, put it on a piece of cardboard and made a template. Then I cut the tint out and placed it over the signal. Again, it was a pain, but it worked. The light housing actually pushes in a little when you use a little bit of pressure, so you'll have enough room to get the edges down.

The spray tint would probably be easier, but like you said, it would be best and easiest if you removed the blinker. The film tint is a little bit of a pain and took me a few tries, but the frustration was worth it in the end.

Sounds like a really good idea...what you did on yours looks great, but I just dont have faith in myself to put the tint on well.

Im gunna by a can of spray tn and see how it turns out. I still have to figure out how to pull the lamp out of the car.

It isn't hard. There was also enough tint for me to redo it whenever I messed up. :p

I tried to find how to remove the blinker housing in my Haynes manual, but I couldn't find anything. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult. You might want to make sure you won't have to reseal the light afterwards.

Good luck with whatever method for tinting you use. Just make sure that when you use the spray, you clean the area well, use thin, light coats, and let it dry in between coats and you should be good to go. :)

Do not buy from American Muscle for the spray tint, they have plenty of awesome stuff but that spray stuff isnt good. I got it and it only covered 2 lights... There is a product called VHT spray tint, it is awesome stuff, works BOMB and with 1 can for 13 bucks u can tint the head lights, turn signals, fog lights, rear markers, tail lights and 3rd break light compared to the 30$ stuff that is crappy.. good luck
