Anyone used JB Weld before?
 

This is my first time using JB Weld. I'll give some background info:

The roof on the interior has like three layers. There is the carpeting which is glued to a cardboard-like piece which is glued to the metal roof.

The cardboard has started coming unglued to the roof, so it hangs very slightly. It's not enough to notice when you're looking at it, but it does slightly limit the view out of my rear view mirror.

I've tried using 3M tape and gorilla glue. Neither of them worked (or held for long). This time I'm trying to use JB Weld. My only issue is how long to I have to put pressure on the roof before the JB Weld will hold it's own. (Not till it completely dries, just till I don't have to hold it while it dries the rest of the way).

Does anyone know how long I'm going to need to put pressure on it?

I use it all the time and I would not use it for something like that. You need to just get some super glue and go do work on that stuff. Once you JB weld something its almost impossible to get it off.

I tried superglue and it didn't work... or I didn't want to hold it for hours until it dried.

If you really want to use it and in this case I don't think even I would you can get quick drying JBweld that sets up in under 5 mins instead of 24 hours like the hardcore stuff. I have used JB weld to reseal up a freinds outboard motor on his boat when the head cracked.

Yeah, maybe I won't. I might try a different kind of super glue. I'll see if I can find a quick drying one.

My roof started sagging in the back. Haven't gotten around to fixing it. I was just going to use liquid nails or something. Any idea of what is used from the factory?

hmm, newer cars than mine, but your roofs are falling down. what kind of stuff did ford make em with?!

go get a hot glue gun and use that.

it works. I did it on mine, used 1/4 stick of hot glue, the roof never sagged again.

Damn near anytime you find that superglue or Epoxy dont work, HOT GLUE will do it.

Yeah same thing happened to mine as well, how strange is that. LoL but I never pay attention to it unless I get in the back seat every once in awhile and my head hits it (6'6").

jack is right on this one. I've used hot glue to hold tweeters to body panels n stuff and it holds great.

Florida sun... ruins everything. :(

Oh man... you know what, I never thought of that. My parents have a hot glue gun. I'm gonna do that tomorrow. Thanks!!

I'll give the hot glue gun a try tomorrow. Been meaning it fix it for awhile now.

If it's sagging in the rear, there's a TSB for it. The solution is regluing it and putting a push clip/fastener in the rear. Mine had that problem when I first got it though it was bad enough that I needed a new headliner. The only time I ever needed a warranty repair...

Wish some glue would fix my sagging rear :eek:

This is an all purpose tool. It can lift and separate and when applied properly, the user can fart in the movies and no one will know. I use it with a popcicle stick. The miricle of science:D

I do have one question with the hot glue. Wouldn't the hot florida sun melt the glue during the summer?

Use "3M super trim adhesive". its a spray on type...thats basically what the factory uses.

Hot glue didn't work at all. It wasn't anywhere near strong enough to hold it.

Staple that shit! For real, just staple it on the edges where no one can see it. You're getting down to the nitty gritty now, Ryan, so you might have to be ghetto. :p

You know what? My dad is the supervisor at a machine shop and I can see if they have any industrial strength adhesive that you don't have to apply constant pressure to that isn't quite as strong as JB weld.

3M super trim adhesive comes out sticky as a mofo..spray...hold for a minute and let it dry...should work...OEM uses it for exactly what you are needing it for.. we stock it at the BMW dealership I work for.

But wouldn't that be more for sticking the headliner to the cardboard or whatever it is.

it basically sticks anything to anything.

I've used the 3M adhesive to stick rubber to wood on the bottom of some home-made ramps. Sticky stuff. It should work to stick the cardboard to the metal roof. That's what I'd try.

3M adhesive is what's holding my louvers on and I've had it up to 120mph with no problems.

I used JB weld to make spacers inside the magwell of my AK47 to hold the magazine in place better. Took about 2 hours for it to settle without wanting to run.

Jb Weld is holding my coolant hose to the heater core in the intake right now until I get my PI installed. Holding thus far, but I dont think it would be a good permenant fix.
