header
hey guys i need a new header for my sixer. is it worth it for me to look at any aftermarket shorties or should i just get another oem?
I have heard shorties dont do much and if you want better headers go long tubes, but if you have to get a new one and its not much more than OEM i would just get a nice set of Shorties. But if you can afford it go for Long Tubes.
Shorties won't do much hell I didn't feel a diff in my v8 gt. So shorties arent really worth it but lets put it this way lets say you are paying 150 for oem and 200 for aftermarket headers then go headers but if its too much diff don't do it unless you get longtubes.
Get MAC LT headers, i think they run about 300 bucks
i would love to get longtubes but then wouldnt i have to do something with the midpipe?
The headers on the v6's arn't a very bad design. They only become restrictive when you do head/cam/intake work. Unless you've got a fair bit of engine work done, or seriously plan on doing some, go stock oem headers. Longtubes are the only thing worth paying more for.
so where should i look for headers then? im not really looking for performance so i guess my question would be would one oem header be cheaper than getting 2 new aftermarket ones?
Well since his header is broken I would get anything other then OEM as they are prone to cracking on the v6 like his did. I would find the cheapest shorties you can get and do that since yours are cracked.
get aftermarket they are cheap and you need to buy them anyway...the way i look at it is if you break something replace it with something better while your at it.
alright so im looking at mac and bbk shortys
http://www.macperformance.com/store/...Product_ID=321 and http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-sh...rs-9904v6.html which would you guys suggest? now ive heard that v6 headers are easier to install then v8s which makes sense, so is this something i could do with ramps and jacks? i really dont wanna pay the $2-300 the shop quoted me |
check out sum junkyards
so does anyone know what difficulty the install is?
Pain in the ass x100. You have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine and such. You can do it yourself, but I got a good price for a shop install, so I did that.

You can slide and install the headers from the bottom on a v6 without messing with motor mounts, Gt's require you to jack the engine up not the v6.
