help to decide on brakes...
 

ok guys, i'm getting close to having to replace the brake pads on the car. I'd like to upgrade the brakes a lil, i'm torn between:

It's an SSBC slotted rotors/high performance pad brake kit..all 4 corners.

Total: $340



I don't know much about SSBC or what type of "high performance" pads that come w/their kit...i know powerslot and hawk are good brands and i haven't heard anything bad about them from anyone here yet..

so i want opinions, lemme know which one you'd go for, or what other kit/combination you'd suggest. i have a lil bit i can drop on brakes, but i don't want to spend a whole lot. so let me know what ya'll think!

If I may say so upgrading the rotors will do nothing but be for looks, so save your money and just the stock rotors cut (they cut them to make them totally smooth again and get rid of any glazing etc.. thats happened). You can usually get this done at any place like midas etc.. for 5-10bucks per rotor.

As for pads Hawks are so overpriced for what you get. I got my full set of pads for under $100 front and backs shipped to my door. I got Satisfied Brakes pads and used their Pro Ceramic ones along with cheap stainless lines from AM.com

Over all my brakes are much better and the pedal feel is great. Total cost was if I remember correctly just under $210 for everything including fluid and other things. And of course I did all the work in my garage.

I would agree with Spike and say that blank rotors are the best for performance, slotted rotors are just for bling factor. I have the Hawk HPS pads and have been very happy with them. They have good initial bite and modulation is very linear. They have low dust and I haven't heard any noises from them. They are slightly more harsh on the rotors than stock type pads but thats obvious.

I would also look into Satisfied GS6 pads, from Tirerack.com. I wanted to try thoes but they were out of stock at the time. I've heard they are good pads.

X2, I had GS6 out back until I replaced everything from the Cobra back there and it helped balance the braking power between the GT rear and Cobra fronts.
