Well, its that time of year when I'm going to start seeing the fluffy white stuff falling from the sky. How is my mustang going to fair in a winter wonder land? I only have a little under a mile to drive to work. My prior daily driver was a scion tc, I fuggin hated that car. Terrible gas milage, it didn't move in an inch of snow, I was sitting there saying wtf you peice of shit, your FWD GO!

depends what kind of tires you have. if youre running summer tires/drag radials, you won't be going anywhere. i have snow tires on my v6 and i fly through the snow here in chicago.

Mustangs are quite good if you know what you're doing and if you have the right equipment. First is weight over the rear. 2-3 sand bags will get the job done, and make sure you put them as far to the rear of the trunk. Secondly is wheels and tires. If you can, use V6 wheels w/ Bridgestone winter tires. You can't get better than that. However, I drove from exit 15 to 23 on the NY Thruway during last year's storm in February w/ Firestone Wide Ovals and made it just fine (though I had to go 40).

But instead of driving, why don't you just walk? It shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes and you save yourself gas. Plus, it's not the best thing in the world to drive your car for only a mile.

i tried sandbags the first half of winter the first year i had my car. didnt help at all. i ended up taking them out in january and didnt notice any difference other than more trunk space. the most you can do is a good set of winter tires. im using dunlop graspic.

Cat litter is better than sand because you get the weight and if you get stuck you can pour some on the grond to get a little traction sand works too but cat litter does the job better

Yet another reason why I love sunny, non-winterland Florida. :D

For winter driving it is MUCH better to put kitty litter in the rear, than sand (can be cheaper depending on where you get your sand too). Last year I had two 40lb sandbags, one ripped and caused a big problem. Kitty Litty is in a container so you don't have to worry about that ripping. No matter what you choose weight wise, I'd place them in all four corners of your trunk to get an equal amount spread to the rear tires.

Either you didn't use enough weight or you didn't change your driving habits.

Also, I wouldn't put it on evenly on both rear tires because the passenger side one gets less traction due to weight balance. So, just like w/ battery relocation kits, it would be best if you bias it towards the passenger side

Yeah you will definatly feel a difference if you use the right amount of weight I had over 100lbs of cat litter in my trunk and lets put it this way if you have nothing in your truck and then you put the weight in. If it doesn't lower your rear end by at least an inch you didn't put in enough

i had ~125lbs evenly spaced over the axle. i dont mash the pedal in the winter either because in chicago, all that does is make your rear end go where the front is supposed to be. i've just had alot better luck with a good set of snow tires and careful driving.

I've tried it. It didn't work as well for me to do it that way, but I guess he just needs to try everything out and see what works best for his driving style.

lets just say this. snow tires and sand bags do wonders. and controlled fishtails in subs and empty parking lots are still fun. i speak from experience when i say dont get caught with your summer tires still on. last year before i made the switch we got an unexpected snowfall....a 15 min drive took me 1.5 hours, 1/2 tank of gas, and 6 people total to help me get out of the 4 seperate spots i got stuck in....oh ya and when we got more than 4 inchs of snow, my front bumper acts like pontoon on water lifting up

What Mustangman95GT said. Don't get stuck with your stock summer tires. Way back when I was forced to drive my GT in the snow, I thought I could do without the snow tires and just throw some sand bags in the trunk. It was terrible, ended up parking and walking to a mall nearby and waiting for the roads to clear.

Added the snow tires on some v6 wheels and it was surprisingly very good in the snow.

I love my pirelli all seasons in the winter they work great

I will be putting some tractor weights in my truck this winter, 2WD FTL (sometimes)

The fact that extra weight did nothing for you really stumps me since from experience, it always helped me and my dad. Well, I guess whatever works best for you.

Also, don't forget to TURN OFF the traction control. This alone will screw you over, ESPECIALLY on a hill.

I believe that the computer will take over if I try to take 1st or 2nd past redline but I have never tried and I don't plan to

agreed, as long as we can bare the harsh snow and some occasional 60/70 degree days, then 3 days later have snow we will be fine....and having to deal with the lions:beatup:

I'd much rather deal with some occasional snow than hurricanes, personally. I'd be too worried about flooding hurting the car.

I'm with you for the Redwings, but Pistons? You've gotta be kidding me. The Phoenix Suns is where it's at. Same with the Arizona Cardinals, and New York Mets (with exception of this last season which sucked the last 2-3 weeks)
