getting pissed. engine light
 

ok, i put some L.T. bbk headers on my care with some high flow cats, engine light comes on about once a week or so, what can i do to permanantly stop this. Any sugg's will be appreciated, Thanks.

What code(s) is it throwing?

You probably need a hand-held programer to turn off the rear O2 sensors.

+1, definitely sounds like your o2 sensors are yelling at you for the high-flow cats. Instead of going out an buying a tuner, though, you might try taking it to a Ford dealership and see if the can turn off the sensors. Some places charge for that, most are pretty cool about that sort of thing.

Did you leave both sets of O2 sensors in (front and back)? If yes, then like mentioned above, you need to turn off your rear sensors. If you only have the front set before the cats, then you still need to disable the rear post cat sensors.


If you already did that (maybe with MIL eliminators) then yank those out and use a programmer to turn them off.

If you already used a handheld (Predator or SCT X cal) to turn off the rear O2 sensors, then use that same handheld to read the code you're throwing and post it up.

You can either do MIL eliminators which plug in line with the stock rear o2 sensors and turn off the check engine light or you can get a tuner and in the tune you can turn the light off. The Mils are much cheaper then getting a tune.

Guys, he has cats, he shouldn't need MIL's or to turn the rears off unless the cats are junk.

Before we can help you out, you gotta tell us the codes. If in fact it is the code(s) for the rear sensors, then yes, you will either have to turn them off or get MIL's. If not, then it's something else ranging from an exhaust leak to bad front O2 sensor(s).

Grady, if you don't have a tuner, take your car to an AutoZone or something similar and have them read the code. If you do have a tuner, go to 'Vehicle Info', read codes, write it down and post it so the guys on here can get a better idea.

agreed, but one thing comes to mind is when you move the O2's farther away from there heat source, wth l/t headers, they dont/wont warm-up as fast and will throw a code...if this is the case, a tuner might be need to adjust them.....

Yep, thats probably it. The same thing happened to me, the code went off eventually.

yes, the o2 sensor, first it was the right one then it was the left one, yall think the diablo p. chip would fix it, ( not to mention the benafits from the chip ) ?

even with cats on an afermarket pipe you can still get the light.

I don't think a chip with the canned tune will fix it. You need a handheld tuner to turn them off or you have to pay a tuner to tune the chip to turn them off. Or there is always the MIL eliminators.. Get the code read to be sure

With Hookers and a massive exhaust leak, mine never tripped. If the cats are good cats, the rear O2 sensors shouldn't need MILs. However, as mentioned, headers can screw w/ the front O2 sensors and that can also trip codes for the rear on occasion.
