Driveshaft Problem

I am "trying" to install a aluminum driveshaft and it Will Not slide all the way in to the tranny (T-45) I will slide in about 3 inches and then refuses to go anymore.

Any help would be appreciated.

where did you get the d/shaft from, was it used? if-so did it come off a car wth an automatic? if-so you'll need to swap the slip yokes;) if not I haven't a clue why it won't go all the way in:confused:

It is used but its the ford racing unit for manual tranny cars. I does have the wide spline on the yoke but I dont see one on the output shaft.
It starts fine on the splines but gets stuck about half way in. The tranny had alot of aluminum stuck in the gears when I had it apart (forks) , so at this point thats the only thing I can think of.

can you count the # of splines on both, one should be 28 (mt) and the other 31 (at)

You can also compare the Aluminum DS with the stock one and try to notice a difference. I had a friend get an aluminum DS and it was a little less than a half inch too long. He's the only person I know of to have that problem though..

Cant really compare it to the stock D/S, car was a 4.6/4R70w now a 5.4/T-45(cobra version). I guess I'm gonna pop the seal out and see if I can determine what the hold up is.

well there 'ya go:all: if the car it came out of had a 4R70W, thats an automatic and the slip yoke is different between an auto and a manual trans, so you'll have to swap them

Randy, I have an aluminum driveshaft with 27 "teeth" and a space that could/would hold another tooth from an automatic Lincoln. Black please excuse the jump in if you would.
I believe this will fit mt '99 Mustang GT when shortened. It came from a '93 Mark VIII. I understand the '93 was the only year that had a one piece shaft without the rubber center. Other than removing the shaft from my GT and testing for fit can you say if it will work?

THX Black and Randy. Mark

i luv how the aluminum ones wine :)

As I said before, the splines were correct. But apparently they were twisted. So I'm gonna pick up a yoke.

That would a 28 spline yoke. It will fit the tranny is basically the same, just might be different length-wise.
