Non Mustang Prob....... Need Help!
 

The wife was out running errands this morning in her 2000 Camry and out of nowhere the thing dies on her. She coasted into a parking lot and called me. I get there and check it out. It seems its not getting either fuel or spark. The engine will turn over while cranking.... but it wont fire. My first guess is the fuel pump. Im pretty sure I found it under the hood. Does anyone know of a way to test this pump to see if thats my problem? Anyone know of any other tricks to try to diagnose this thing? Im open to all suggestions!

the fuel pump is not under the hood. Its in the gas tank.

Check if the fuel pump turns on by turning the key to the "on" position but don't start the motor. If you listen you should be able to hear the pump prime up for a few seconds. That will tell you if the pump is even working or not. Next up would be to pull a start plug and see if its getting spark. I would also look at all the fuses.

I thought so too. I looked things up and I read in 2 areas that it is under the hood between the air box and the brake master cylinder. I drove out to look at it and sure enough. There is an object down in there that really looks like a fuel pump with lines comming off of it. I will check more closely later today. Right now I got to get out of this suit and into my jeans to go tow that damn PoS home. It has been sitting in that parkinglot over night. Got a friends truck.... I got to teach the wife how to tow a vehicle too! This is going to be interesting to say the least! LOL

You sure that isn't the fuel filter? Either way, mounting that far from the tank (or from each other) is a terrible design, especially since electric fuel pumps work by pushing fuel, not pulling it so the closer to the tank, the better (hence in-tank designs).

Yep you guys were right! I was misinformed on the underhood location. What I was actually looking at under there was the filter. There is a line that leads to/from it thats got the valve to check fuel pressure. Thats the reason I thought it was the pump. On another note. Im going to buy a can of starter fluid to spray in the intake to see if I can atleast make it fire. If it does fire... I know I aint getting fuel. If it dont... I aint getting spark. If the spark is my problem... Im thinking it may be the timing belt. That will be a BITCH to fix on my own. But I will try to do it anyway LOL.
