I think my battery is dead

How long do the stock batterys tend to last?

This morning i took the kiddo to get his blood pulled, took the stang, had no issues.

when my wife got home i got ready to go to work and i was going to pull the stang back in the garage and she wouldnt start. I jumped her off the wifes saturn and she started up, but beforehand she did not even have enough juice to roll up the windows.

i have less than 31,000 miles on the car.

think the batt went bad? i checked through and everything seemed to be turned off, the car was only sitting around 3 hours before the wife got home so i cant imagine something as simple as the dome light draining the battery

Randy Stinchcomb 07-21-2008 02:00 PM

if you've gotten anything more than 12months/12k, consider yourself lucky as FoMoCo puts the cheapest battery in the car from the factory

JackThe Ripper 07-21-2008 02:19 PM

tHAT IS TEH GAYNESS

guess i better start shopping around.

you reccommend any brands?

i dont really need a top performer, but something that will last another 50-60k miles would be killer.

Randy Stinchcomb 07-21-2008 02:36 PM

Interstate is a good battery and usally not to bad in price either

JackThe Ripper 07-21-2008 03:42 PM

Cool...

thanks randy!:D

Mr. Zip 07-21-2008 05:01 PM

^^ Agreed. That's what I run. : D

stanger00 07-21-2008 08:38 PM

im still on the stock battery! its about 8 years old...the battery is also telling me it wants to be replaced as it is always showing a yellow dot sometimes red!

if you seen the prices for batteries over here you would probably shoot yourself

V6_Mustang_Power 07-21-2008 08:39 PM

lol i killed my stock one when i put in a system.

stanger00 07-21-2008 08:49 PM

the dome light turns itself off after 15 minutes or so...i have left it on a few times.

venom 07-22-2008 06:04 AM

When I had my Durango the batt went south at 30k miles.

bassman97 07-22-2008 06:52 AM

I personally won't run a battery more than 3-4 years since I'm in no mood to find out that's it dead when it's 10° outside. I personally run the Car Quest batteries since they seem good (had mine for almost a year now). As for Motorcraft, I always heard good things about those batteries, unless Ford puts something else in from the factory.

98svt 07-22-2008 09:13 PM

i assume you did check the alternator?

No.. i did not, i would be suprised to find a 4 year old alternator with 30,000 miles on it is dead though. while not impossible, alternators usually are good for over 100,000 miles, plus i dont have any aftermarket electronics to put an excessive load on it. I do have the mach 1000 stereo, but the alt should be fine.

at least i hope it is.

When i jumped it off the wifes car after i disconnected the cables the stereo etc still remained on while i pulled it in. i diddnt have much time to really inspect it.

this weekend ill pull the batt and take it into the shop and have them test it.

oh yah get this,. after 3 months of having the car up for sale without a single bite, i got 3 calls today, all pretty promising as well. Probably since the battery is dead and now i gotta rush to get it fixed.

lol

rebelyell 07-22-2008 11:24 PM

my battery in my 04 seems like brand new. I've even jumped a few cars at work. Light is green on the battery and I hardly ever really look to see if it needs maintenance. I'll be looking for it now though. It's an 04 so thats quite impressive for a battery. I got an interstate battery for my rider lawn mower that lasted 3 years with the occasional charge. ;)

You should still check it out, just to be safe. My '05 GT started pulling similar stunts with me and my father originally thought it was the battery, until we checked it with a volt meter and discovered that it was the alternator. The car only had 12,500 miles when the OEM alternator took a shit on me in May of this year. I didn't have any aftermarket electronics or any excessive loads on it, never left the lights on, etc. For another Ford alternator installed in a Ford dealership, it costed me about $550. So for your sake, I hope it is the battery.

Good luck fixing it! :)

JackThe Ripper 07-23-2008 01:33 PM

i really hope it is not the alternator then. lol. i seem em selling for about 2hundo. ugh.

install, hell ill do it myself,i mean hell, it is right there staring at ya when you pop the hood. ;)

Steeda97 07-23-2008 01:36 PM

3 calls today? They were all me. I prank called you. Keep the car.

TUFF 4.6 07-23-2008 08:07 PM

Some batteries will run for ever and all the sudden take a shit while youre in the grocery store. There is sometimes no warning.

Yah man 3 calls.

Im still hoping to sell it. I have a guy coming up this weekend it looks to check it out.

im gonna miss it of course, i really dont want to sell it but at this point i gotta put my family over my toys.

ill save myself about 500 bucks a month if i dont have that payment. by the time everything is said and done i will eliminate about $19,000 in debt, and all i will be in debt for is about 4k on a card and my house. With that car payment gone i can peg out that 4,000 in less than a year and be 100% debt free with exception of the house of course.

then starts the hunt for a Black 89-92 Mustang 5.0 GT in good shape. and im gonna make sure to pay for it in cash.

Im pretty tired of being a good american and paying interest to everyone and thier brother.

Ive decided it is time to keep my money, and not give away a percentage of what i spend to a third party.

JackThe Ripper 07-24-2008 02:01 PM

Got a new battery today.

car fired right up.

73 bucks down the drain.

mustangrn 07-24-2008 06:36 PM

It could always be worse.

JackThe Ripper 07-24-2008 06:43 PM

lol

i went through several alternators within ~4 months. don't know wtf it was. i think it was just bad parts. silly remanufactured alternators because once i found a real OEM NEW alternator i haven't had a problem with it.
