Any tips on installing gears and T-lock?

so i'll be taking the stang to the shop where my girl's dad works(he's the only mechanic there) to have my 4.10's and posi lock installed, i have the 7.5 rear install kit from AM. all i have to do now is pickup some gear oil. he has never messed around with a Ford rear end(only Dodges and GMs and what not). he was talking to a guy that has done a few rear ends himself and told him what he plans on doing, the guy looked at him and said "have fun" lol. so is their anything i should tell him about installing these on the ford rearend, anything that will help the install go better?

he said " i hope your a very patient guy(to me)" lol. he told me if i wanted a same day install and etc that i will be better going with a diff. place cause he said it will take him a few days. because he has to do what his job is and this is free for me and he has to take care of the paying people first lol. but im sure it will get done quickly.

also he was talking about adding more HP to it, he told me that i should stick to making it look good after i get these installed, he says if it were 10 years ago it was ok to go put and bullshit in the car but today the cops are jackasses. he says his grandprix GTP puts down 260HP. the last camaro he had put down 450HP..he says the fastest car he had was when he was in his early twenties, it was a trans am and built the motor and tranny himself...after a few days after he got it all done he sold it. he said it was way too much HP for me and if i kept it i woulda ended up dead.

Save yourself the hassle and bring it to someone with experience working on Fords. I dont agree with his reasoning for not modding it. A cop isnt going to be able to look at a car and tell how much hp it has. The only reason I wouldnt put money into making it fast is because its a v6 and its going to take A LOT to make it fast. You could save that money up and get something better in the future.

the guy who put in my new rear end, that was his first time even touching a ford vehicle. anyway the guy knows what he's doing and he can do it.

he is saying that their is really no where to be going 0-60 on any road unless i take it to a track. cops are up the ass 24/7 around here.

Good, racing around on public roads is stupid anyways.

Just take it to the drag strip then. Only tips i can give is be sure to put loctite on the bolts that hold the ring gear on. The haggard stupid shop that installed 4.10s on my F150 didnt and 12,000miles later the bolts backed out and destroyed my $180 rear end girdle, ring and pinion gears, and my 300 Ford posi that was all barely a year old at that point. So yeah be sure to use that on the bolts.

and yeah that stuff came with the kit :)

If he knows GM rears, he shouldn't have much of a problem. Heck, the 8.8" even shares parts w/ the old GM 12 Bolt and is set-up in a very similar fashion. I'm sure the 7.5" is the same case.

All the same principles still apply, pinion depth, backlash, and preload. If he has done one he can do yours. Do not reuse crush sleeve. Good Luck
