help please?
 

so i dont drive my car often, only when i come home from school on breaks.
in between around 1500 and 2000 rpm the car kinda vibrates or shakes more than usual. whether im on the gas or the clutch is in and the rpms are just dropping .. its really annoying when i downshift too.. anyways i noticed it like 4 weeks ago when i came home for a weekend and its still happening now. happened to anyone before?

how long has the car sat?

it gets driven like once every other week since school started in august except for the couple weeks of winter break

Any flat spots in the tires?

Yeah could be wheels, tires, or balance issue. But I had a similar problem. The bearing in one of my pulleys was worn, and my idler pulley was worn out. I'd get your pulleys checked. It's a $200 fix, that cleared up my problem completely

hmmm k ill get the pulleys checked... if it was tires why would the vibration only be at a set rpm tho?

lol beats me. but yeah my problem was the pulleys. you could always just ask someone to diagnose the problem, if you have a shop you trust

so the place that put my engine in wants to charge me 270 to replace the harmonic valve and said that that was the problem.. before going to them ford told me they thought it was an engine problem and that my warranty on the engine should cover it... would the harmonic valve cause this shaking i had i dont really trust this place

If Ford says you wouldn't have to pay a dime, then I'd go with them. If the problem still exists, I'd see get Ford to check again, and see if your warranty can pay for whatever is wrong. I'd only go with the shop in the case that they'd be cheaper, if your warranty doesn't cover it

nah i had the shop put my engine in over the summer and thats why i went there bc its on warranty with the shop... i took it to ford first tho just to see if they could diagnose the problem and because they are cheaper

So your warranty is with the shop? Ohh I think you got your message backwards... so ford wanted to charge you 270? Well, whichever way, I would probably still go with the warranty first

i have a warranty with the shop on the engine only, thats why i took it there and they still want to charge me 270 for the harmonic valve... i asked ford what they thought before and they told me they thought it was the engine so it should be covered by the shop on warranty.. im just saying im not sure if this problem really could be fixed by the harmonic valve and maybe the shop is screwing me ...sorry that wasnt really clear :salook:

Okay! I gotcha now! Well, it sounds like word against word. I'd say ask Ford to check your Harmonic balancer and see what they think. If they say it's out, you're good pick which ever shop is affordable and you like. If they still disagree, then I'd say go with your gut. I have no idea how to tell if it's out, so I can't help you, but mabey if someone here knows, then they can tell you more...

yeah well i went and picked it up today, it was the harmonic balancer* but damn they charged me 145 to install it ... shit its not a big part

Yeah, you must mean the harmonic balancer. And if so do you hear any banging noises? The harmonic balancer on my dads car just went, it made terrible loud noises at certain rpms.

never mind... lol too late. glad to hear its fixed. sounds about right my dad payed about $150.
