exhaust/muffler question

OK, so, I'm planning on rebuilding my exhaust system. I have an '02 GT and want to put L/T headers and an X-pipe (with cats). My question is...how much would an actual SLP Loudmouth catback system affect performance, or should I save some precious $$$ and get just the mufflers? I know headers and an X-pipe increases performance, but would a whole new catback as well?

Yes the catback is going to help performance. Maybe not much but it will help. The pipes diameter is larger than stock plus they are mandrel bent for better flow. Not to mention everything will just bolt right up and you won't need any custom work.

I ended up having to cut my exhaust off, because I couldn't even get some of the damn clamps loosened up. So depending on how many miles you have on your car... it might just be easier to put a whole new catback on anyways.

Ok, so the catback adds a little. but enough for the $500?!

I know most gains come from the headers and x-pipe...right?

Just buy the whole SLP catback first and put it on yourself. Its a simple cut-off the old exhaust and bolt on the new one. You can do it in your driveway in a hour or less most likely.

Then when you are ready put the LT's and the catted X on. The headers will be a much more difficult install so decide whether you are going to do it or find a reputable shop to do it for you. You will feel the most from the headers and x pipe. The whole system together should give you a decent hp increase and an even bigger tq increase.

This is the order I installed my exhaust. I have a full SLP exhaust that I installed and I have a few pics if you need any help.

advice, pics, etc..amy info would be great! my bro. in law is a mechanic and has access to a shop (engine lift, car lift, tools, etc), so the exhaust was going to be our little spring break project.

when is comes to mods...i like to go in little bites, but with full applications. case in point...

first bite: air intake. this included MAC CAI, BBK 75mm throttle body, C&L intake plenum, and spacers.

second bite: exhaust. this (hopefully) includes L/T headers, X-pipe, SLP loudmouth catback????? sound good? any other ideas, tips???

third bite: transmission. this will include MGW shifter, 4.10 gears.

etc...

Why don't you look into another cat back? Shop around, I think I got my magnaflow cat back for $375. I'm sure you can find something else you like that would be cheaper.

yeah, and if you really want an SLP exhaust...plz use their Powerflo muffler. Its the only one they make that sound proper IMO.

the only ones i've ever really heard are the Loundmouths--I like the 1 better than the 2), but i'll look into it (youtube, google, etc).

i want a nice, deep, shit scary roar (even more important than the sound...performance). but then again i do have an 8 hour drive to make 5-6 times a year...

If you want it to be as loud as the LM1's you'll be dissapointed with the regular magnaflows. Maybe you would like the magnaflow magnapacks. Just shop around you're bound to come across a cat back cheap.

how do the slp powerflows compare? the previous owner put flowmaster 40 series mufflers on the stock pipes....and i'm honestly not too fond of it.
