T-3650 help

I'm looking at either doing a swap or putting a power adder on. My question is, what's the weak point in the T-3650? Like what would need to be put in it to make it more durable. I read somewhere that the shift forks were pretty bad.

Thanks
Al

Give us some more info, how power do you want to add? What is your current setup? what is your mileage? the more we know, they better we can help you. But I would say you should be fine unless you really want to swap it or have one lined up for cheap.

Well i'm looking at doing some sort of engine swap in the future. I'll be staying below 500hp. My current mileage is 27,100

a new trans is not were i would begin. In the beginning you said you might put a power adder on, now an engine swap. I think you need to develop a real game plan as to what you want to do with your car. Will it be track car or a street car or a little of both? This decision will dictate many things and for what mods get put on. You starting out right by asking questions, there are no dumb questions...BUT use the search feature first. 99% of the time most questions have already been asked and answered....so use the search to find them. I would say gears will give you the most bang for your buck, its like adding 40+ hp. your suspension needs depend on how much track time you plan to do....so really look in to it. I would'nt get all crazy about an engine swap with only 27K, plus you didnt say what year you have so i cant really offer anymore.

not to be an ass, but i originally said i would like to do a swap or a power adder lol. The car is going to be a DD along with some track use. I won't be doing the swap till I get the rear end and tranny set up first. I'm trying to build from the bottom up and not just dive into a broken tranny and rear end. It's an 04 GT btw

I think they rate a 3650 at 400 foot pounds of torque, its not so much as hp but torque. I think must of us are safe at these numbers. I wouldnt change it till I broke it. Then you have a trophy.

this biggest thing is how much money do you want to spend...HP=$$$$$. so if you really think a power adder over a engine swap start with power adder friendly mods. and which power adder, NOS, turbo, twin turbo, super charger: centrifugal or roots style. If your gonna do an engine swap start reading up cause there are several options available. You could do a 4.6 DOHC, 5.4 SOHC, 5.4 DOHC, put on 3V heads, crate motor, keep your block and put in a forged rotating assembly. as you can see there are really dozens of paths you can choose. Also you could stay NA put on some heads/cams, headers, TB/ plenum, tune and gears and call it a day.
