Wher'd mah oil go?
 

Lol... ok so im confused here.

Not a mustang question, but im somewhat confused.

My wife has a 2002 Saturn SL2.

2 months ago i did an oil change. I drained MAYBE 1 quart of oil out ot it:eek:

So i filled it with almost 4 quarts as it specifies in the manual.

Today, my wife was driving to work, Check engine light came on. She has a mechanic friend who works near her, he came out and put a code reader on it, got 7 codes back. IT said low coolant, so he checks the coolant, it is fine. It also said low oil. He checked the oil, and it was bone dry.

Her car does not smoke, it runs great, she commutes about 18 miles to work, and 18 mach each day. Her car does NOT leak oil either.

Where the HELL is the oil going?

Hell, i changed the oil in the honda the same day, i still got plenty of oil, i drive 23 miles to work, and 23 miles back. My honda DOES leak oil.

WTF mate?

typical GM CRAP.

Perhaps a blown head gasket and the oil is transferring to the coolant and burning off. Then again you'd likely see other signs of that, i.e. milky coolant and possible overheating, etc. There has to be a leak somewhere, oil doesn't just magically disappear.

well.... i mean it had to go somewhere right? if it got mixed in with the fuel i should be seeing smoke? especially if it burns through damn near a gallon in 2 months...

No overheating issues, ill check the coolant to see how it looks.

Try running it and then when you shut it off, pop off the oil fill cap (I'm assuming it's located in the typical position on the valve cover) or the entire valve cover (if you want to get messy) and see if you see a puddle of oil there. Wait a couple of minutes and if the level remains the same, you have a clog somewhere. You can also check this in a similar way by popping the valve cover off and pouring the oil on the head to see if it drains freely back to the oil pan. Have you also checked the rear seal? Could be leaking oil into the bellhousing and if the housing is sealed to the engine block, well, your oil could be going there too and you wouldn't notice any leaks.

I dont think there is a clog, her mechanic buddy went ahead and put more oil in it and got the level up, and you dump the oil right into the head.

leaking into the bellhousing, diddnt think of that, anyone reccomment a good way to check?

I've had 2 saturns, both ended up being PHAT oil burners. I think it's crappy valve seals or a sloppy ring gap. In any case, I found metal in my 96 SC2's oil and that's what originally got me to buy my old 01 Mustang GT.

No other real way than to separate the engine from the trans enough for any oil (if there is any) to drain.
