Air vents for rear brakes

My question is in regards to my father's 98 Cobra. He isn't one to use forums so he has sent me here to ask a few questions. I currently have a 95 mustang that was converted to a 5.0L. In the front of my rear wheels is a vent that goes through the body entirely making it fully functional to cool the brakes. On the flip side my father's 98 Cobra doesn't have functional cooling vents. Is there a reason for this? It just seemed odd for a performance car such as that to not have it and my originally v6 car to have them. Please send some insight my way. Thanks a bunch.:t:

is a 98 Cobra an IRS car? if it is, maybe that has something to do with it.

IRS didn't come until 99 for the Cobra. Also, are you sure those vents you speak of are not just fake style cues? I'm pretty sure the only Mustang to have brake venting was the 00 Coba R.

Yeah +1 bro. I dont know of any mass production stang thats got those vents you speak of. Though I HAVE wanted to look into doing something like that for my front brakes!

I know for a fact that a 95GT has the vents...real ones. I've seen it with my own eyes...a co worker of mine has one, and I work on his car for him.

the 94-95 cars have them, after that they were taken out if i remember correctly.

I will try to put pictures up of my 95 mustang and the 98 cobra just so some of you can see the difference. Thanks for the thoughts and information again.

There were a bunch of minor body changes made to the SN95's after Ford abandoned the windsor pushrod motors in mustangs.

FWIW... those side vents do nothing for you even when they're functional. The front brakes are the only ones that are going to get hot enough to need venting. Rear brakes do very little of the stopping. You'll also notice that your dad's rear rotors are of the vented variety and GT rear rotors are solid un-vented disks. He doesn't need the cutouts to work as his rotors cool themselves very efficiently.
