OLDGTDRIVER 10-27-2007 07:24 PM

FIRST SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE!

Want to put an exhaust system on my recently purchased '04 GT!
First, in manner of introduction as a newbie, my screen name which is OLDGTDRIVER is in reference to my chronological age as I am probably 35+ years older than the youngest Mustang drivers out there!
Most of my driving (I have a 5 speed) is under 3000 rpm but I am still having a blast driving it even in 10 mph traffic;) .
Back to the exhaust system!
I have narrowed the choices to either a Flowmaster American Thunder or a Force II.
Though the stock system sounds good, I would like it to be a little more
pronounced without being ridiculous. Lets say 20-25% more volume over stock. Again, I want sweet sound, not noise!
To those out there with experence with both of the above systems I would much appreciate any input before I buy.

Hmm, not much of a fan of either. Have you looked into getting either Magnaflow or Bassani? Personally, I favor Magnaflows lower, less raspy sound. Its quiet at idle, yet growls when on the throttle. Coupled with an o/r H-pipe or o/r Mac Prochamber, it has more of the "old school" muscle car sound.

Have to agree with Machnjo. Not a fan of the Flow's.

Magnaflow or Mac would be my choice or Borla.

If you are looking for something 20 - 30% louder then stock, the American Thunder should suit you fine. Not familiar with the other one.

Keep in mind, most folks around here are looking for more like 2 - 3 times louder then stock? Or, like me, 10 times - lol.

There are some other, more peaceful options out there too you might want to check out, such as SLP PowerFlow.

I had the American thunder set-up...and it was way too raspy for my tastes...thats with an X pipe and no cats though. I'd go with weld in Aerochamber mufflers. They have a very deep, old school muscle car sound IMO.

LOL- x-pipe and no cats changes everything. American Thunder by itself has ZERO raspness and is pretty quiet.

well like everyone said, the x pipe gives you the raspy sound. If you want the "old school" muscle sound go with an h pipe. If you dont want it too loud, keep it catted, but get high flow cats. THEN go with your choice of muffler, its the mid pipe that makes most of the sound(correct me if i am wrong guys).

Well I have a 01 and wanted a little louder but not to be def when you have people in the backseats, since I have 2 young ladies that frequent the backseat ( daughters ) and I would then be hearing some raspyness from them.

So I went with the MagnaFlows, and its loud when you accellerate but not raspy or hipitched, and it makes enough noise to know its there when you hit the gas!
