Spec Stage 1 Clutch Install
 

I have a question about the clutch I just installed. It is a spec stage 1 clutch. I installed it in my 2002 Mustang GT with no problems. The only thing wrong is that the auto adjuster for the clutch pedal is not working right. (this is a ratcheting mechanism attached to the clutch pedal if you look under the dash of a 2002 Gt you will see a white plastic ratchet attached to the pedal where the pedal meets the clutch cable). It is adjusting the clutch pedal so that it doesn't engage until the pedal is almost all the way to the top of it's range. Other than that the clutch is working fine. For the mean time I rigged the bracket that is supposed to stop the adjuster at the right spot to stop where it should. I need to know what I did wrong if anything or do I just need to buy a cable with a fire wall adjuster or some other part that didn't come in the clutch kit? Please help me.

Take out the plastic adjuster, which have a tendency to break anyway when upgrading the clutch, and get yourself a new quadrant and firewall adjuster.

Keep the stock cable. It is better than the adjustable aftermarket ones out there.

The only problem I have with it is that the stock auto adjuster will not work properly with this clutch. It wants to ratchet down to the last position where the clutch doesn’t engage until right at the top of the petal. YOU WILL NEED THE HIGH PERFORMANCE CABLE WITH THE FIRE WALL ADJUSTER OR YOU WILL BURN YOUR CLUTCH UP! THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION IT IS A FACT!

Wrong. The stock OEM will be fine with a firewall adjuster. Many members here are using the stock OEM cable with high perormance clutches including myself with no burnt clutches.

Please explain why just having a firewall adjuster would call for a " high performance cable."

I don't know if you already ordered a new quadrant and firewall adjuster yet but on the spec stage 1 its so light i would first go and reset the quadrant. If you didn't reset it all the way down when you did your clutch it will be to high like your saying. Or just ditch it and spend the $99 or less it takes and get the good stuff. Ive done both and while i like my Steeda setup of quadrant/firewall adjuster combo its been a pain in my ass because it doesn't stay set for long after i do some high rpm runs i have to get out and re adjust it. Even though Steeda says it should. I might be returning mine as they think there is something wrong with it and getting a new one. I always get the best luck on stupid parts like this.
