someone explain

just a question out the blue i was looking at a couple engines over on mustangsunlimited and i saw that they have a 5.0L with 345 hp for $ 3,749.64, and a 5.8L/351 with 240 hp that costs $ 2,397.64, and they also have a 5.0L 302 that put out 390 hp for $6,000....i would think that the 5.8 will cost the most ....why is the 5.8 the cheapest

cobra1923 07-13-2007 06:38 PM

I think the horsepower ratings explain the price. a 302 putting out 390 needs some heavy duty (expensive) innards. A 351 putting out 240 can have aluminium foil pistons and tinker toy rockers...that's

gula187 07-13-2007 06:42 PM

which will be the better buy so i will not have to change a lot of things on the car

B-rett 07-13-2007 06:49 PM

well knowning what car you have would help but you will prob have to switch a lot of stuff either way

gula187 07-13-2007 07:00 PM

should be a 05 v6 in a couple months

v6'stang 07-13-2007 08:08 PM

seriously...so you are planning on putting a carburated engine in an 05 V6? Don't waste your time or money. you might live near me to be at MU. Georgia right? or Connecticut?

v6'stang 07-13-2007 08:38 PM

and normally i'd be against ppl sayin' "buy a GT" but this isn't the fact a gt is quicker. this is the economical issue. say you go with the $3800 motor. then you're going to spend about a K in getting/installing an 8.8" rearend (total:$4800) and a transmission;$1800? (total:$5600), driveshaft, suspension upgrades (to handle the heavier motor) , and misc. components you'll need, motor mounts etc. so right there i'm sure you'll hit the 6-7k easy. plus install unless you're going to do it urself. so why not put that 6-7k on top of what you're going to spend on the sixxer and get the GT? idk how much more the GT is compared to the v6, but it's prolly right around the difference you'd pay doing the changeover. but with less headaches. heck, the GT with a CAI w/tune and catback pushes around 340-360HP right? hope me breaking it down give ya another perspective on it.

gula187 07-13-2007 09:29 PM

my parents told me i couldnt get a car over $17,000 thats why im stuck on the v6 and i really like the fat body syle and i figure like this with a bigger engine and a suercharger i should see 400+hp

wnracing 07-13-2007 09:43 PM

05 V6+ S/C or turbo = fast car, faster than many of the 99-04 GT's here. Why would you do an engine swap in a new car? Sounds dumb to me.

gula187 07-13-2007 10:03 PM

if i do the super charger will i have to change the internals if the engine, and as for the engine sawp i just would do that to have a v8 and tones of power

do the turbochargers scream like the superchargers and what one are loudest

If you're worried more about which one is the loudest, then you don't need to even consider it.

Is this your first car? How old are you? How long have you been driving?

If you want more info on the 05+ V6's and tuning head over to http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.php?...

i asked that question because i like the sound when you really get down on it..and no this it not my first car i have a 92 z28, ive been driving since i was 15 and im 22 now

zigzaggthefag321 07-14-2007 12:07 AM

so you ARE thinking of buying an 05V6 and putting a carburated v8 motor swap in it?? Call VMPtuning before you attempt this.

WaterDR 07-14-2007 06:33 AM

First, I don't think the guy was serious about this. Second, taking a newer car like yours and putting in a mix-matched motor will definately cost a fortune. Then, to top things off, the car will have zero value, no warranty, and no one will want it. So, unless you are planning on building a race car, this is about the dumbest thing financially you can do to this car.

An exception would be is you had bought an older v-6.....like a 1996 - 2003 and got the car cheap as hell. Perhaps the motor was blown etc.... then decided to put a Mustang motor in it like a 4.6 2V or 4V.

Since your parents had a say in the purchase of the car, I am sure they will won't be pleased with a motor swap like this.

As far as motors costing more of less, depends on a lot of factors. Besides the cost of the parts to build, you also have to consider ease of swap. Some swaps are quite difficult and thus the prices of the motors might have to be less.

v6'stang 07-14-2007 08:38 AM

yea either put a pwr adder on the six or attempt to talk the parents into the 8.

Steeda97 07-14-2007 09:07 AM

Or thank your parents for spending 17 grand on you.
