any danger from underdrive pulley's?
 

looking into the possibility of getting Steeda's underive pulleys.

Can some one give me some good insight on how well tehy work, are they worth it, and, are there any hidden or likely problems that may happen if you install them?

No mod is fool proof, but this one is pretty straight forward. Assuming they are installed properly, you won't have any problems unless you decide to significantly upgrade your sound system. The alternator will work fine, but you may have issues if you add to many electrical sucking devices.

I have UDP's and a bottle heater and have never had any issues when that puppy is running even with the radio going and the headlights on.

sorry to butt in, but i was thinking about getting the pulleys, and i was told that they are a real hassle in the cold weather of SD.....also i have a pretty powerful sound system and amp..but i also have a strong capacitor too...would these effect my sound quality????

the cold weather part doesnt even make sense to me, but for your stereo if you got a capacitor and a good battery i diont see it being a problem.

yeah it didnt make any sense to me either....but several people have told me this........they say something about them cracking when its cold and youre engine heats up......i dunno they could be full of crap..but it does get blazing cold in sd :toothy11:

No you will be fine. Just make sure you install them correctly. My friend's 97GT put them on incorrectly and kinda created problems for himself. I know he messed his water pump up. and shreded 2 belts.

The old school versions that were milled from cheap aluminum and not properly made (wrong materials made with the wrong tools and left unifinished - simply wrong) would sometimes crack in extremely cold weather due to metal fatigue. The steeda versions are made to high standards from good alloy and treated with a coating that gives them a good long life span.

The problem with aftermarket items pulling additional juice in cold weather, however, is a real concern. You can have your charging system checked under full load (everything electrical running - stereo, lights, ac, fogs, etc). If you aren't putting out enough power without underdrive pulleys, you sure won't be doing it with them. The tech should be able to tell you whether you're marginal under load or not. Your stereo's capacitor doesn't really help your alternator any - although it won't hurt it if properly installed, either.

I just installed mine a few weeks ago, it was VERY easy to do. They only issue I ran into is that there is a washer on the crank bolt. If you do not remove this bolt you won't be able to get the crank pulley off.

I Like The Quality Of The Steeda Pulleys And The Excellent Instructions That Came With Them. I Felt A Difference In Seat Of The Pants Acceleration. The Steering Is A Little Stiffer At Slow Speeds But My Battery Never Discharges And My Engine Doesnt Seem To Run Any Hotter. I Would Purchase Them Again In A Heart Beat.

Remember to use plenty of RTV in the keyway on the crank pulley or they WILL leak oil.

i used steeda pulleys for months before i got my blower. no problems at all
