Ordered Moser 31 spline axles but...

I purchased them last week and got them in but the kit didnt come with the ABS rings. Isnt it supposed to come with them? Where can I get them? I am using the 31 spline axles with Eaton posi.

The axles come with or without a hub for the ABS exciter rings.
You have to press your old ones off the stock axles and press them onto the new ones. They are made of ceramic so dont try using a hammer. I just went thru this last fall.

Also your stock wheelstuds wont fit in the Moser axles. Order some from ARP, they must be install before the ABS rings...

hey oohsoobad...i need new ABS rings because i got into an accident and the passenger side wheel literally broke off the car (i hit a curb-lost control of car). Where would I be able to purchase all these necessary parts from?

mustangmike23 05-12-2007 04:23 AM

how would I know if it came with a hub for the ABS exciter ring and what is the difference?

Here are a set of axles with the rings on them to give you an idea:

is the ring that thing on the bottom of the axles with the teeth like thing? almost like a gear?

Your best bet is probably getting a new one from Ford. Order from this guy, he has saved me a ton of money in the past few months.

First though check to see that your axles have the ABS hub. Its a little bushing that rides on the axle. It was extra when I bought my axles.

that link takes me to a forum...whats the place to order the extras?

practical upside... if you leave the rings off then your ABS and TC will be disabled and won't bug you ever again. I just did my axles and I took a hammer to break off the ABS rings so they could never be used again. They're not ceramic... they're metal. Just weak fragile metal. 2 whacks with a hammer and they're broke in half.

Don't bother with em.

True but then you have the ABS light staring at you.

Follow that link and email the guy who started the thread FORDSVTPARTS.... Better yet you can call him at 800 328 9552 ask for Steve. Tell him you are a member at ModularFords.com and you will get any stock Ford part 10% over cost. He has saved me a bundle during my engine swap.

oh man thanks so much for your help ohhsoobad...greatly appreciated! Would they be able to tell me anything else I need to install the axles? Studs? or anyother thing?

oohsoobad2 05-12-2007 09:34 PM

I used ARP studs but I dont have a part number.

I started calling machine shops out of the phonebook until I found a guy who knew what I was talking about. I believe he charged me $45 to press the rings off, install the wheel studs and then press them back on. That included the cost of the studs.

If your installing axles you might want to consider bearings depending on your mileage. You can borrow a puller that makes it easy for free from most auto parts places. Since you have the cover off an upgrade to a rear end girlde would be a wise investment too.

well i believe from what the description says that the moser axles come with studs. I purchased them from americanmuscle.com. I also got an eaton posi, rear end girdle. I have a guy working on it now and the reason i needed an ABS ring was because i got into an accident and broke off the passenger rear wheel. Also need carrier bearings and a shim kit for my 3.55 gears.

I don't... I have a steering column guage pod in the way. But yes... it's in fact illuminated.
