blew my engine in my 4v

SUCKS!!! started hearing a vigorous tap on acceleration only after 2k RPM. thought maybe it could be a vibration. than found out i had a cylinder 6 misfire. took it to ford and they broke the bad news to me. they told me that it was a definante bottom end problem. that 90% chance the motor has to come out. i am screwed, just bought the car in feb. wit 43k miles.....so the odometer says

TClark22 04-14-2007 12:38 PM

damn the 4v motors are dropping like flies...2 people around kansas city just blew theirs...and with the same amount of miles

jeredan2003 04-14-2007 12:45 PM

yea that motor is definately coming out. Sorry to hear it but use this time to upgrade if at all possible.

COBRA DOWN!!! REPEAT COBRA DOWN!! WE NEED SOME BACKUP ASAP!!

Damn dude.. that sucks.. :shakeno:

99-01 cobra or 03-04? One is much cheaper to replace than the other.

3V2000GT 04-14-2007 05:46 PM

dang that sucks I was in the same situation a year ago. Forge everything its the only way to go.

32vRacer 04-14-2007 06:42 PM

its actually a 97

White04GT 04-15-2007 01:44 AM

drop a 01 engine or a 03-04 mach in it.

Thats bad but I would rebuild your current block with forged internals and add a power adder later on. Get an oil pan with larger capacity our 4vs love the oil due to the heads.

ClemsonStang 04-15-2007 10:01 AM

yeah, ide drive a honda for a few months and put a pretty solid low compresson bottom end in it. then boost it later.

r3dn3ck 04-15-2007 10:41 AM

you can just find yourself a used shortblock from any 96-04 car and bolt it up. It'll be the equivalent of a head gasket change since you're basically swapping the heads and such to the new block. Compression will drop a point with dished pistons.

I'd buy a built short block if you can afford it. Single best option.

well heres the deal. i talked to a journeyman mechanic at a dealer and he said hell do it on the side for 2300. thats pulling the motor, fixing whatever needs to be fixed, and putting it back in. not including parts. for parts im looking at maybe a rod or two he said, or bearings. worst case scenrio a crankshaft, but doubts it. so im lookin at maybe 3k to spend. is there anything else i can do with my 3Gs?

Check this out http://www.karkraft.com/short_blocks.htm

ok, blocks at PER race engines in plainfield IL. crankshaft scored to shit. ordered 1 from jegs. theyre gonna hone the block pressure checke veerythin balance everythin and put the long block together for 1200. he says hell bevel my valves for 380 and ill get 15% increase in airflow...he equates that to about 20 hp, is he being a little generous with his assumption?
