T45 vs. T3650
Up until recently, I thought it was T45<T3650. But now I'm hearing that the T45 transmission is much more durable and will last longer as long as you don't power shift it. Two people I know with T3650s have told me they'd rather have a T45, so now I'm starting to wonder which one I should get, or if I should just continue to save and get a T56.

powershifting any tranny is bad for it. youve heard a lot of problems with the 3650s froma flaw from ford. the early 3650s were fine. mine hasnt had a problem yet.

If you are going to get a 5-speed, stick w/ a TKO. Otherwise go for the T56. Also, the TR3650 is stronger than the T45. It's only problem is the TSB to address the 1-2 shift problem.

I haven't had a single problem with my 3650. The only problem i've had is my clutch taking a dump.......otherwise it's pretty stout...:)

I had the 3650 for about a month, hated it POS! 5th gear would barely go in and it was hard to get into reverse, i might have gotten a crappy one but my friends 03 does the same thing
go with the TKO 600 and Mcleod twin disc clutch like i did!! |
3650 is a fine tranny... not the strongest but a good unit. If you plan to whip it like an orphan then buy a tko. If you're going to be human to it then a 3650 is a great option. I've burned up 3 of them but the failures could always be traced back to clutch issues which seem to have been worked out.
3650 is quite a bit stronger than the t45. You can make a t45 into a pretty stout box too with a little build up action. The dividing line should probably be your budget and how intent you are on trying to break it. T56's... meh. I think those are really only useful for cars that see road courses with lots of straightaways. |
3650 is much better then the tranny that replaced it. thats why the GT's no longer have the T45 anymore.
