Urethane engine/trans bushings, are they worth it?
 

I was planning on also installing some urethane engine/trans/trans x-member to frame urethane bushing later on in my 93 GT. Would I benefit from replacing the rubber with urethane or not?

the poly ones last longer, but they are stiffer, they let more of the shock and vibrations come back through the car. my drive shaft is a little out of balance and the poly tranny mount lets more of the interstate vibrations come though the car. th engine mounts let the harder idle shake the car a tiny bit more. but i also added a tubular kmember, aarms, and coil overs at the same time, so it changed a lot.

i have urathane motor mounts and they much stiffer, I find that at high speeds if i leave it in gear the car shakes more, because the the stiffer mounts transfer the vibrations through out the car more. the mounts eliminate engine flex and allow a transfer of a little more power to the wheels, but not much.

I'd heard that the poly ones transferred more power to the rear wheels. And I figured that there was gonna be some added firmness/stiffness, but the way yall talk, it sounds like too much for my taste? I mean, the Mustang or Fox body is one of the stiffest, from the factory cars I've ever drove. I might do the tanny poly and replace the engine ones with rubber?

A good compromise is to use a torque strap or to do a redneck style poly mount. Basically, you drill through the rubber mount and put a bolt through it and tighten it w/ a nut. You can then decide how stiff you want it by how tight you make the bolt. However, the poly mounts shouldn't scare you away since they are no where near what solid mounts will do.

your kidding right? man its really not that bad. its a fox mustang, its gonna be alittle loud, make some noise, and vibrate. its part of the fun of driving a 15 year old car. mines noisey and creaky. the poly mounts really arnt that bad to be honest, imo.

Yes, the car is a stiff ride, but I wasn't complaining about it or if it sounded like I was, I didn't mean too? Here's how I see it, it's all engine and a small, short 2 door, sports car, it's supposed to ride like shit, they're not made to be comfy :) It's just the way yall were talking, sounded like urethane engine/trans mounts made it a lot worse than it is now? That's what I said what I said...

i dont think it does. im not much help because i also added coil overs and changed the whole front and rear suspension. poly mounts shouldnt be too bad.

I have them and you can feel the motor a bit more but thats the nature of the beast.

i found out today that poly's are needed...i tore my stock transmission mount completely in to....energy trans mount is in the mail right now
