Beefin' up before the Blower

What are the first crucial parts in order that must be beefed up before adding a blower?

Rods, pistons. Your crank will take a lot of abuse, your rods won't. Nether will the pistons. How much boost are we talking here?

ok, I have done tons of research on this and have talked with Jason Steen at steen racing enough about this to crack his head.

If you are going to stay in the 380-430hp range, you will be able to run on stock pistons and rods, and crank for now. Plan on swaping out in a year or two. most likely a year.

if you stay in this range, get and open exhaust, get differ headers, o/r pipe x or h, and some free flowing mufflers. you are putting more air in your engine than normal, a lot more, and it needs somewhere to go quick, you dont want to blow pass your engine.
get an open intake - trueflow, accufab, bbk plenum and TB, 75mm is best with S/C.

you will also want to look at getting 42# injectors and get a lightning or SCT MAF 90mm.
If you will be using SCT as programming, then get the SCT MAF, have not heard anything bad about them, only good.

if you will be launching your car above 3gs when dragracing, then get a 31spine axle, if you launch above 3gs, you are looking at breaking your axle.

when you want to add more boost and take your hp levels up, get dimond forge pistons, forge rods, a good stable crank, and get some cams in that baby. with a good job and getting some heads work done, you will be good through 650 or more hp range.

hope this helps,
any questions just ask.

for anyone with the money to do this, for the love of god do it - i would do anything to put 500hp in my baby but i cant even afford half the things on that list.

Got the money now, getting a novi2000 with a paxton 3 core air to air cooler, Can you say horsepower.

I'm not certain at this point. I am a newb in the world of mods. I have only recently gotten my vehicle, but I can feel the bug itching at me to get more HP!!
It keeps me up at night and I can't sleep until I start working toward my dream of increasing my HP. I would probably like to get it just around 400+, I'm not trying to go too too crazy on my daily driver. I realize there are always going to be faster cars, but I just want to have something that's a very decent contender for street fun. :evil4:

Wow, thanks for all of the information, it's very nice to see someone put in time and give a well thought out reply. I appreciate your comments and I will bookmark this for later use as I become ready to begin my project.
I will probably never be launching over 3k so I will save the axle stuff for later and focus on the other parts first methinks.

Ya, I agree. I guess I will have to just save up. I may be changing jobs soon so that will help. (I have a degree in Computer Information Systems and I currently work as a web developer, but I think I can make more money as a real estate sales agent. What is the world coming to?)

Well just as a warning, even without a blower you can trash the rear end. I would suggest switching to at least a 31 spline trac loc, 31 spline axles, and just do gears at that point if you have not already.

But like others have said:

1. Full exhaust
2. Plenum/Tbody

Thats about all you need aside from the blower, unless you want to get serious with cams, heads, internals, etc. Then I would suggest checking out www.modularpowerhouse.com they have from what I have seen the best performing custom blower cams and best performing heads. They arent cheap but they are one of the best, if not the best.
