Cost for gear install

I was quoted a price of $885.00 to have FRPP 4.10 gears installed. That includes the gears, new bearing kit, fluid, installation, and a speed cal. Does that sound kind of high? I'm thinking it does.

jjtgiants 11-30-2006 11:21 AM

well, lets say it's $300 for parts...that's $585 for the install....that seems pretty high to me.....Some people will say you can get them installed for
$200-300, but here in Cali that isn't the case and I'm assuming Florida isn't too far off from that. I would shop around. The install cost is exactly why I haven't put gears in my car

From American Muscle...

Speed Cal and 4.10 Gears Kit
$329.99

Motive Bearing Kit (8.8")
$74.99

Subtotal: $404.98
coupon -6%= $380.68 plus shipping

$885- $380.68= $504.32
$885- $404.98 (without 6% discount)= $480.02

Still a rip off. If you supply all of that stuff, then dont pay over $200 for install. Hell mine was only around $220 without supplying anything.

I was quoted at $600 for parts and install. Is that fair?

I found another place that will install the gears for $625.00. That price only includes the gears and install. It will be more if I need new bearings. Why is the labor to install so frickin' expensive in Orlando? We are talking like $400-$500 for labor to install gears.

I found a local shop here in Daytona that will install them for $225.00 but he does not carry any parts. What if he replaces the gears and finds out I need new bearings than that means my car will have to sit there until I order new bearings. Plus, I do not know how reputable this guy is. Man I'm screwed! What do I do?

I am also finding out that many of these performance shops will not install gears unless you order the gears from them. They claim liability issues. I didn't think having gears installed would cost so much and be such a headache.

i heard of this place called lamotta performance or some shit in longwood i think

try calling them, but dont hold your breath

they wanted to charge me 100 bucks just to install the underdrive pulleys

SilvertGT04 11-30-2006 01:42 PM

Yeah, Lamotta Performance is the one charging $625.00 just for the gears and labor. It will be more if I need new bearings. I'll keep searching.

this place where me and my parents usually take our cars, its called coltires

the owner works on race cars apparently and would put my pulleys on for 40 bucks, he speaks no english what so ever of course so...

im not sure if he has all the fancy tools and such for the speed calibration and shit though

04DarkShadowGT 11-30-2006 04:02 PM

the local speed shop charged me $350 to rebuild the entire rear end and I supplied all the parts except oil. (includes diff, gears, axles, and rebuild kit)

blownstang 11-30-2006 08:05 PM

If I supply all the parts (diff., gear, axles, bearing kit, girdle), one place wants $350 (includes welding axle tubes), and another place wants $500.

spike_africa 12-01-2006 05:10 AM

Your car needs nothing other then the basic install kit its a 2004 trust me your bearing if they were bad you would know about it by now. Get a basic install kit gears and lube and get it done. There is a guy in palm bay that does it for like $230 if you supply the parts search google for it i cant remember the name of the shop.

I paid 80 install for gears, 200 for headers+midpipe, 20 for tire mount balance and alignment, 100 for front and rear cobra brakes, 20 for ac recharge, coolant flush and refill, and free oil changes, free tranny fluid flush and changes, and free fluids for my car. lol

Always install new bearings. Its just dumb not to. It don't cost that much and its already apart.
