e-brake
 

I have a 1998 3.8 6 mustang. The emergency brake feels very loose. I have to pull it all the way up for it to apply any brake pressure to the rear brakes and the braking power of them is not even enough to stop me. Is there anyway to adjust or tighten the rear brakes? My pads are nearly new so I know that's not the issue. Thanks.

ill bet the cable is stuck--i kno mine was stuckand i loosened it by gettin under the car and usin a screw driver an a hammer to knock it free and then sprayed it with some lubricant an stuff and tried to work it to work properly wich did not work--so i just dont use the e brake any more--if i neeeeeeeeeeeeeeded to stop with it i could use it but it will just stay engaged after i use it

There are two types that Ford used: the self-adjusting and the standard style. If you go to a local autoshop, they will problem give instructions on how to do if you don't have the self-adjusting version. Whatever you do, don't let the dealer do it. Took mine in because the return spring had to be put back on and they neglected to realize that the cable should be re-adjusted afterwards...

yer cable is prolly stretched out. Just go to ford and get a new one. They dont costs all that much and theyre VERY easy to install IMO.
