3.73s or 3.90s?

well i dont know what to do once again. i know i dont want 4.10s becasue this is my daily driver and 3.73s seem like im not doing enough...but i havent heard much on 3.90s other that they make some sort of noise? are they worth the money? idk if i trust buying Motive brand either i wanted FRPP but i dont see any 3.90s made by them.

red281gt 09-25-2006 10:14 AM

4.10s you'll be sorry if you didn't! Mine is a DD and i have 4.10's it doesnt really change the driveablity or gas milage(thats depending on you driving habits)

cobra1923 09-25-2006 10:24 AM

Go with 4:10. There's little difference between 3:90 and 4:10 and there's little differnce between 3:73 and 3:90. There's a significant enough swing between 3:73 and 4:10 that it makes a huge difference in the feel of the car and it's fine on the highway. You will not regret it. I run 4:10 and mine is essentially my DD (unless it snows)

DarkSith 09-25-2006 11:13 AM

Get 4.10's I have them on my daily driver, I had 3.73's and were'nt satisfied with them. If you do decide to go 3.73's I have a set that I will sell you.

Ghostalker 09-25-2006 11:45 AM

I would do gears next, but my driving habits contain ONLY highway driving, maybe 2 miles non highway a week. So if anything I would be going lower :shock2:

dookie2365 09-25-2006 12:43 PM

yea i do 20miles highway driving to class everyday so idk i was told 4:10s bad bad idea

eep, I am furthering my education in the city (providence RI) so I never even see my car unless I am leaving town, which is usually once a week to see the g/f who lives 50ish miles away

Lances03SVT 09-25-2006 01:47 PM

Go with the 4:10's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are not that bad on a DD.I had them for over a year on my GT and had 3:73's before (waste of money) and the 4:10's were a better gear.

Don't fear the gear!!

+1..3:73's should of came stock. Get the 4:10's

MattJ 09-25-2006 04:28 PM

I have 3.90s in mine. Im glad I went with them over any other gear. 3.73s are a waste, get 3.90s or 4.10s. 3.90s SPECIFICALLY dont whine. If gears whine, you or your installer sucks.

do you have Motive brand? any problems?

bucky 09-25-2006 07:08 PM

round trip to work in the summer when i drive my car:
22 miles

i drive pretty fast around the city too.

my gas mileage with 4.10's is around 200-230
depending on if i have a really heavy foot that week.

trust me, i had 3.90, went to 4.10, and love them. i did notice a difference.

red281gt 09-25-2006 07:56 PM

Motive is a good gear thats what i have. no problems but deff 4.10s you would be sorry if you didn't!

dookie2365 09-25-2006 08:27 PM

Your top speed is way more than 140mph. It is just that the computer will not let you go any faster. With 4.10's you will top out 4th gear at about 112mph. 5th could pull till 180mph.

hmm so hard to decide

blownstang 09-25-2006 09:04 PM

Just do 4.10's. There has got to be a reason why everyone recommends them.

yes they are motive gears and i dont have any problems. if you have problems with gears, its the installer who did something wrong.

Put in 4.10's, remove the limiter, and let me know when you pull to 180mph.

blownstang 09-25-2006 09:10 PM

Here you could figure out your rpms.

theoretically 180 mph is possible but the real world we live in has obstructions like friction and resistance. i would also like to see you pass even 160 in a stock gt, with no limiter on. lol

Exactly what I was getting at. Maybe in a perfect world you could. These mustangs are FAR from aerodynamic too. But, even in a perfect world you wouldnt be able to rev high enough to in 5th to reach 180mph.

I was going off what the rpm calculator told me. It says that with 4.10's, in 5th gear, your rpms will be at almost 6,000.

StangGT804 09-26-2006 08:29 AM

i like my 3.73's!!!

in 5th gear pulling 6000 RPM with a 4.10 gear you will be running aprox 166 mph

I put 3.73's in my GT,it had high miles and I wanted to be easy on it. After a couple weeks I was wishing I had went 4.10's. When I regear the cobra it will be 4.30's. Or a T-56 and 4.56's......oh,what fun I'd have.

dookie2365 09-27-2006 09:39 PM

i also was thinking about superchargins in the near future...heard 4.10s are usually swapped back to 3.73s after superchrging
