MAC catted H on stock exhaust manifolds

Does anyone know if a MAC catted H will bolt right onto the stock exhaust manifolds or are aftermarket headers needed? Also are any MIL eliminators needed?...this is for a 96 GT...thanks.

Just make sure you get the pipe for your year car and the one for stock manifolds and not long tubes. I even looked up the part # for you, its C4696 on macperformance.com or http://mustangtuning.com/9698gt-mac-catted-h-pipe.html I cant answer your question about MIL's, Ive never had a catted mid pipe. However, you are going from 4 or 6 cats to 2 high flow cats.

PureStang 08-21-2006 10:09 PM

you wont need MIL eliminators unless your Engine light comes on....

Yes, I probably should be been more clear about that. I dont know if the light will come on or not. Id get the midpipe installed first then see if you need them.

yeah ive got that advice twice...i have access to a scanner/code reader so that wont be a problem. but about he catted h. yes i will be going from 6 stock cats to 2 hi-low cats...and so far i have decided i want H instead of X. The great prices ive seen so far is $299 for catted X from UPR or $369 for catted H from mustangtunning. i just wanted to know if it would bolt right on to the factory exhaust manifolds. i like flowmasters so i got original 40's...but i didnt realize how much those 6 cats were holding back the real sound.

also..i couldnt find that part number you referenced on macperformance.com... so far only on mustangtunning and its a different #.

96-98 GT 2.5" Dura Black Coated
Part Number: C4696
Price: 369.50

#'s will vary from site to site. H pipes sound better IMO.

TClark22 08-22-2006 11:15 AM

wait...did u just say six cats? well if u have a GT you do not have 6 cats...u have 2...and the sixers like mine has 4 cats

03gtmustang 08-22-2006 11:16 AM

Actually, you're wrong. The older GT's had 6, the newer ones have 4.

Yep! I know my mach had 4 cats and so did my 03 GT......Was it only california GT's that had 6 cats or did ford do it accross the board? Just curious cause someone told me once the older GT's that were sent to Cali had 6 cats while GT's shipped to other states did not....I doubt that is true, but I just thought to ask.

Rabbit 08-22-2006 12:07 PM

mine had 4. And you shouldn't need MIL's, and as long as you get the right midpipe for your year, it will bolt right up to your stock manifold.

NoKturnaL 08-22-2006 07:55 PM

I actually have the Mac Catted H-pipe..It bolted right up! and sound was noticable over the stock h pipe... Yea...just make sure u order the correct pipe for your year car...

TClark22 08-22-2006 08:23 PM

umm...confused my friends only had 2 cats...WTF ARE YOU GUYS ON! lol just like 6 months ago there was a thread about the GT's having 2 cats and the sixers having 4...why do we say 4 to GT's?? me confused

zigzaggthefag321 08-22-2006 08:40 PM

my GT had 4...ill take a pic of my stock Hpipe tomorrow at work if ya just cant be convinced otherwise.

TClark22 08-22-2006 08:43 PM

hmm...my friends 01 only had 2 cats on the stock h...ford confuses me!

Justin99gtconv 08-22-2006 09:07 PM

Mine is a 99 and i had 6 cats. The newer ones have 4. if your friend only has 2 it is aftermarket.

PureStang 08-22-2006 09:19 PM

94-98 v8's: have 6 cat's
99-00 v8's: have 6 cat's? i thought it was 4
01-04 v8's: have 4 cat's

not much more confusing than that

and TClark....your friend may have bought the car from ford like that but it may have had an H pipe w/ 2 cats from the previous owner if it was used

bassman97 08-23-2006 05:13 AM

Are you thinking total or two cats per side (2 on driver+2 on passenger=4)?

stanger00 08-23-2006 05:22 AM

i know my POS had 4 cats when i yanked it off in march. i have a california mustang so its not a cali thing. my old roommate had a 96 GT and it had 6 cats. you can find those mac H pipes dirt cheap on ebay, psshh who needs cats.

foncarelli 08-23-2006 06:04 AM

Mine had 6.

ex-ricer98gt 08-25-2006 01:30 PM

i have a 98 gt and mine had 6 as well

Caseych 10-17-2006 04:12 PM

I know it's late in the conversation but my cali '98 stang GT has 6 total cats and I am looking at a mac catted-H as well. I am also looking at the SLP catted-x, which do you all think would sound better with my racing flowmasters coming out of 3.5 inch tips?

96-98 GT's have 6 cats. ALL 99-04 GT's have 4 cats. Are you sure your havent forgotten about the cat that sits right at where the manifold connects to the midpipe. It looks kinda like a football, and then after a few inches, there is another normal looking cat. If Tyler only had 2 then the previous owner must have cut the two rear cats out.
