short shifter
 

im looking to buy a short shifter i have the money and i think i know what to get ive read reviews and the steeda tri-ax tr 3650 would be a good choice. i have an 02 gt. will everything fit with out a problem and will i have to order anything else for the install? also anyone who has this shifter do you like it and would you recomend it?

I love my Tri-Ax, but I would go with MGW.....from what a lot of people say it's probably the best short throw shifter out right now....it doesn't mean the others are bad.

I have a Pro 5.0 and absolutly love it! HAven't tried the MGW, but have only heard great things about it!

steeda, MGW, pro 5.0 are all very good. I hate steeda in general but I USE the Tri-ax. It's a high quality piece.

They bolt on with zero hassle and it'll just work. Make sure to follow the directions and read them completely before you start.

I use the Steeda also...like it and it suits my needs just fine. I hear the MGW is the shiznit though. I put a homemade rubber gasket between the handle and base and a cork gasket between the base and the tranny (also homemade) to cut down on some of the inherent tranny noise that the aftermarket shifters come with (since they eliminate the big goofy rubber bushing from the factory shifter). It helped quite a bit in reducing the noise.

MGW...is the BEST shifter.

i have the hurst shifter....its extremely short and you KNOW when its in gear....here are my choices from best to last

MGW - Only from review i hear its good
B&M - have tried it...short...lower than stock shift height but extremely confortable
Hurst - i own it...its great but the height is killing me..way too high
Steeda - hear bad things about the 2-3 shift...

what bad things you hear about the 2-3 shift on the tri-ax?

Reason I ask is, I have one and the 2-3 shift is the single BEST part of the whole thing. Coming in a close second is the 3-4 shift which is wickedly short. All shifts are positive and fast for me and the other 50 or so cars I've driven with a Tri-Ax installed on them.

from what i have heard...it sometimes gets stuck right before it goes in..as is its being blocked...i dunno how to discribe it tho

never ever ever experienced that. I'll keep an eye for it on mine though. I think that's probably more to do with people trying to "find" third instead of just pushing the lever forward and allowing it to go in by itself like it's designed to do. Just a guess but I'm usually right. hehehe

thats what happened to me w/ the hurst..but that was when i first got it...

i think that people got fed up with it when they first got it that they took it off and said it sucked maybe....ive had my shifter since november..i dont have to find any of the gears anymore...haha

i run the mgw and love it. i shifted a pro 5.0 and it is also a great shifter but i like the mgw better.

I had the triax and didnt like it so I sold it. I am back to my stock shifter.

get it, put it on, you'll be fine and go powershift.

I say go with the Hurst, but spend the extra cash and buy the 8"X3" chrome stick w/ white knob (I believe it's the one from the 1st gen Camaro). Places the knob better and if you push the leather boot all the way down, you have the classic look also (w/ the stick exposed). The placement is excellent and the throws are perfect but because I'm using a different stick, the bottom of it where it bolts to the shifter is grooved on the wrong side so buying a set of nuts to prevent the bolts from coming loose is needed too ($.20). Except now this set up for me came loose, after 10,000 miles so I may be forced to mount the stick on the other side.

I didn't like the tri-ax handle so I took a pro-5.0 short stick and heated and bent the handle to a more comfortable position. Now it's a super short handle that's angled almost perfectly for my reach.

I used aluminum bushings from (I believe...it's been a while) steeda that came with the tri-ax to mount the handle to the shifter. There's no slop and I don't really get any noise to speak of even with an aluminum Mach1 shifter handle.

just get the MGW...you can adjust for angle, reach, height from the get go.

I have those Steeda Shifter bushings in my stock shifter. It made it 100x better. Mabye thats why Im so fond of it..

those made all the difference for me. the rubber dealie was no bwaynoh. heck I could almost deal with the stock shifter with the aluminum bushings instead of the rubber deal.
