99 v6 Radiator Fan not working
 

I have a 1999 v6 mustang and my radiator fan has stopped working. I am looking for the fuse box diagram from the owners manual.

For those who wish to help me diagnose.
I took a road trip from MD to FL and noticed nothing bad about the car on the way down. While driving to Daytona I was stuck in stop and go traffic for a good hour. I felt some heat radiating from the side of me so I glanced at the temperature gauge and it was almost in the red, so i pulled over, put the heat on full blast and opened the hood. The only thing I noticed was that the coolant level was low, so I filled it up and waited for the car to cool down.
So we get back to my friends place and we check the radiator fan motor, it still works.

--We took the fan out and ran the battery directly to it and it ran fine, so thats how we knew the fan still worked --

We call the ford dealership to see what could possibly be wrong and they say it could be FuelPump/RadiatorFan relay and a coolant temperature gauge. So I bought those and put in the relay and ran the car for a while and it still didn't work.
Now I'm at a loss as to what it is. We still haven't installed the coolant temp gauge and my last resort is going to be to hardwire a switch to it until I get it back home for someone else to deal with.

We looked at the fuse box and noticed that some of the fuses were missing. There was one missing of the big thick ones (not sure what they're called but they have the hole in the prongs). Some other fuses were missing.

If anyone has some suggestions as to what else it could be your help would be greatly appreciated.

You did not say if the fan is runing when it overheats. Have you checked the thermostat? How many miles do you have on the car? Did it overheat when you had the AC on? Does the fan turn on when the ac is on as it should be. Is the upper radiator hose hot when it overheats? Did you look at the front to make sure its not cruded with bugs that may be causing a restriction in airflow. Did you remove the fan and check for cracks on the blades. How is the serpentine belt, check the water pump any leaks?

--The Fan does not run at all.

Have you checked the thermostat?
--No, we did not. (we bought the gauge that tells the radiator to turn on *talked to Ford dealership about this* )

How many miles do you have on the car?
--Under 60k

Did it overheat when you had the AC on?
--Yes it did, and it overheats even when the AC is not on. It DOES NOT overheat on the highway when driving about 40-60mph, but DOES overheats when traveling at low speeds 0-30 mph.

Does the fan turn on when the ac is on as it should be.
--No it does not turn on when the AC is on. It doesn't turn on at all.

Is the upper radiator hose hot when it overheats?
--Assuming the upper radiator hose is the the big black tube coming from the top of the radiator (about 2inch diameter) it is very hot. The hose from the reservoir is very cold.

Did you look at the front to make sure its not cruded with bugs that may be causing a restriction in airflow.
--There is nothing restricting the airflow

Did you remove the fan and check for cracks on the blades. How is the serpentine belt, check the water pump any leaks?
--We removed the fan when we directly wired it to the battery, there were no cracks in the blade. The serpentine belt is fine. There are no leaks in the water pump.

Check all the wiring you may have corroded or broken wires, blown fuse. If your box is mounted in engine bay the wires for the relays sometimes gets corroded and you cannot tell by looking at if from the top. What you have to verify if the relays are turning on and off. Listen to it using a a long tube and turn on AC you should hear a click on the relay. If you do then you know its wiring from fan to relays.

more than likly the fan motor is toast. if it wont turn on with the a/c its probibly fried. you can take a volt meter witht he key in the "on" postion and witht he a/c swotched to on, and see if the fan is getting power if it is then the fan motor is dead, you can go to a junkyard to get a used one for cheap or get a new on from ford, if it doesnt have power you have to find the fuses etc.. and track down the problem, but i would bet money and dead fan motor.
