**** knob keep turning on me
 

my shift knob keeps turning when im doign some hard shifting. its not all the way tightened unless i wanted the 2-4-R right next to my leg and the 1-3-5 pointing at the passenger seat. is there a way to lift the shift boot up or somehtign so it stays tight in normal position? i hope u guys understand what i mean lol

yah... pull up on the trim around the boot... it'll pop right off

And to do so you will need to...post a pic of your issue maybe? I keep thinking about zip-ties and stuff like that...Mines got a set screw to keep it in place...so just get an MGW and problem solved! If its spinning on the shaft then you may need a new one or great time for a short throw.

is all the threading still working and its just loose? I had the same problem on mine. If it's stripped you're probably screwed. Otherwise on mine I pulled the shift boot down, held the knob in the right place, and then tightened up the nut below the shifter that holds it in place.

I know what your talking about. with my new shift knob, if i tighten it down, the numbers were facing the passenger side, if i put it where the numbers were facing normal, any hard shift and i'm spinning it lose. what i did was remove the shifter knob and actually rolled small peices of paper to fill the inside of the shifter knob. i would stick them in there and use a pen to push the paper all the way down, make sure you roll the paper. then i would put the shifter knob back on and tighten it down, it took a few trys but now it's on there tight and the shift pattern facing the right way and it doesn't get loose even when i go to the track

I just stuck some paper squares stacked up inside the shift knob until I'd stacked enough of them to lower the roof of the thing far enough to bring it back to proper orientation. Remember...it's a giant nut right. What happens if you cut the top 1/2 thread off a nut, you change the final position of the nut by 90 degrees. Simple but effective. You can also use epoxy or whatever... paper was easy to remove if it put too many squares in so I used it. Now my sheezie is tight as a nun's c*nt and facing directly where it should.
