Spare Key

Im in need of a spare key. Went to Ford they have them made for $40.00 + an hour of labor to program the chip in the key for ignition.:wallbash: Anyone know how to program the key with chip. :beerchug:

Trying to save a couple of bucks for new clutch.

Thanks

i ended up going to a locksmith or whatever that does electronic keys and such and they cut the key for me and just slipped the transponder (chip) in to the top of the key (their is a lil piece of the plastic that will open but its reallyhard to open) also their are only a handful of different transponders, i think they go by voltage or somthing. give some places a call and see what they tell ya in your area

i think i paid like 35 or somthin

what year car? there are 2 different PATS keys now, the older ones you can do yourself but alot of the newer ones (@2002 up) wth the "jeweled pats key" have to-go to the dealer to have done

I have an 04 and you can do it at home, read your manual. page 62..It says you must have TWO programed keys that work for your vechicle, if you don't have two then you must go to the dealer. The instructions are online at ford.com, just download the owner's manual for your car.

If you have your book, it's in there. Mines page 62. If not go to www.genuineservice.com and click on glovebox manuals

I know this is a little bit dated but I just lost my key, the only one I ever had for the vehicle. Someone said that there are 2 PATS key set ups, if I have a 2000 Mustang GT would mine be the kind a locksmith could do? And how much would I be looking at if I live in upstate NY?

they cut them ware i work and if ur getting it for 40 buck dam that is a good deal. they have a machine that transfers the info from ur key to the other one. if u dont want to spend the money u can get one with out the chip in it for about 3 bucks and it will just open the door incase u lock ur keys in the car. hope that helps.

Out of curiosity I have two door keys that won't work in the ignition but they still have the STRATEC logo on them is there anyway to program these to work in the ignition or will I just need to get on made cut from the one that will start it?

tristang 03-20-2008 03:09 PM

um does it have a chip in it? ware i work people can bring in their keys and we program them for not that much. there is a way to program them urself with just ur ignition. but im not sure if that works on our cars.

Uneed2Douche 03-20-2008 03:21 PM

all i know is how to program the keyless entry if n e one needs help with that im ur man

PureStang 03-20-2008 04:11 PM

wow...ford is cheaping out if theyre only giving one key out for new cars...i have 2 keys with 2 remotes...hmmmmm

as far as getting a new key...you will have to go to ford probably cause you dont have any keys or chips for your car...you will have to get a new key and buy a chip for your car directly from ford.

Stangurey 03-21-2008 05:23 AM

I spoke to Ford near me yesterday and they told me that it'll cost $35 just for the key and another $50 to program it... $85 total isn't too bad... :t:
