O2 Sensors?!?!?!?!
 

Hey, I bought a MAC straight shot intake for my 2004 GT and it suppose to work well with the stock O2 sensor. But my problem is, a few months after i installed the intake, my sensor started acting up and I had to replace it. Few more months down the line, which is now, the sensor is acting up once more. Do I need a more performance sensor and if so where can I find one. I have looked everywhere that I can think of and came up short. OEM O2 sensors will just mess up again after a few months, i think I need a more performance one or do I need to tune the computer to it?

Never heard of an intake messing a O2 sensor up. Very strange...not really sure what the problem is there. I have a Steeda Cold Air intake and my rear O2 sensors shut off (b/c of the midpipe I have) and never run into that problem...nor did I run into that problem when my rear O2 sensors were turned on.

Messing up how? Bosh makes a few HP ones, not real sure of just how good they are tho. NOt sure how a CAI could mess with your o2. You don't mean your MAF do ya?

Never heard of that one. my friend has a mac straight shot on his 04 stang and no problems with any 02's.

Do you have stock exhaust? are you throwing any codes?

yea im sorry, my MAF sensor... the first time it happen, my "Check Engine" light came on, so i took it to the dealer and they told me it was from the intake. So i had to pay for a new sensor. and now it came on again and everything that happen the first time during the problem, is happening again... Car idles at a very low RPM, lower than normal, and I smell gas more from the exhaust, more than normal.... and the overall sound sounds a lil different too... all the same from the first time.

Take your car to a dealer you trust and have them pull any codes from the comp. If you have a tuner do it yourself, or rent one. If it's a MAF failure code go back and see if the one you just got is covered. If not get that POS CAI off!!! Not worth going through MAFs for, just my op. C&L makes a great kit ($400) it's a 85mm MAF, trueflow pipe and cold air kit. They claim 8-12hp and I can really feel the dif after the install, pulled like mad around 3k. I never heard of a CAI messing up the Mass Air Meter, unless it was over oiled and it contaminated the wire in the meter. That wire heats up pretty good and that oil can't be good for it and that meter tells the EEC alot of things.
If you have your stock setup, i would put that back on/clean the wire element with a Q tip, softly, or with some electrical cleaner. See how that works. If it works, then i would take a look at your filter, did you reoil it or did it come oily? If so, wash it out and lightly oil it and maybe retry it.

yea I think i should clean/reoil the filter. I havnt done it since I installed the filter... Do you know exactly when you are suppose to clean it? and what works best to clean it?

Changing the intake around doesnt add much hp and can really screw with the MAF readings. Also, you dont need a bigger MAF unles you are pegging the stock one. Buying a new MAF on a nearly stock car is a waste. The stock stuff works fine, no need to change it or youll run into problems like this.
