Lower it

So, I posted some pics of my car with my new 17'' Fr500's and got chewed on for it looking too high...one guy said it looked like it was on jack stands, another said my Ford Racing center caps looked bad(whatever! they look cool) Anyway, so I want to lower the car, but how can it be lowered with the rear suspension set up that way it is? Quad shock set-up...01 GT. Is there a good kit to get 1-1.5 inches lower without puttin coilovers on it...I just dont get how the rear can be lowered with a suspension design like it has. Any ideas?

a simple set of aftermarket lowering springs like steeda's,H&R,etc... will do this no problem.

Nofire 05-24-2006 11:53 AM

Or if you're really worried about it, get a set of lower control arms and get rid of the quad shocks.

r3dn3ck 05-24-2006 11:54 AM

the man speaks the truth.

I'd replace the struts with stouter units like Tokico or Koni or Bilstein as well since high rate springs on stock dampers will wear them out quicker and you'll be underdamped a bit (minor handling issues) but, you can totally wait on that for a while if budget concerns are an issue.

FRPP B or C springs or Steeda sports, or H&R sports, or Eibach will all give you a nice ride height change and improve handling a bit.

EDIT: Quad shocks are not an issue in any sense with normal lowering. You can remove them but there's no sense in doing that just yet.

Go H&R and dont look back. I love them and have had them on both cars that I had and have had no complaints.

floppy 05-24-2006 12:46 PM

lol, poor guy posts pictures of his pride and joy and everyone chews him out.

zigzaggthefag321 05-24-2006 02:50 PM

Thanks for the replies everyone...I think I will spend my $$ for hop-ups (gears etc.) this round and then worry about lowering the car...maybe not, I dont know. I wonder if replacing the Quad shock setup with control arms would interfere with the 315's I've got on the rear.

mcmmotorsports 05-24-2006 02:59 PM

H&R Super Sports if you want an agressive drop that looks AWESOME or Eibach Pro-Kit if you want a drop that gets people off your back.

95STANG 05-24-2006 03:56 PM

You could just lower the front and get a thicker tire in the back. Thatd look SICK!!!!

Do they make a 315/70 ZR17??? I think lowering will be the best way to go...I am a little worried about the front tires rubbing, cause they already do when the wheels are turned all the way with my stock suspension.

GREG@SN95 05-24-2006 05:43 PM

eibach

well worth the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I doubt they make 315/70/17. 315/35/17 or 315/40/17 is more of a realistic size.

I HAVE 315/35/17...I was replying to the guy that said I sould get taller sidewalls....like a truck lol. Apparently my car already looks like a truck to some folks...I think that's funny.

they probably make them that big... except they are like 10 ply tires and you would be slow as hell...

just lower it... it'll look better

Justin99gtconv 05-24-2006 06:16 PM

Tried the big tire thing and it looked like **** look at the back tires in my sig, i took them off a day after i put them on and went and bought eibach pro kit with the pro dampers for 630.00.

madmatt 05-24-2006 06:16 PM

Bilsteins and H&R Sports. Matter of fact, just buy MM's starter box. Its EVERYTHING you need to lower the car the right way.

i like it... actually... the front tires in yer sig are wayyyyy too small...

yes... i am serious... tires in the rear look good... front tires make the wheels look too small

GREG@SN95 05-24-2006 06:23 PM

never mind... that was before the lower... did you keep those tires after you lowered... get some newer pics... i wanna see em

Justin99gtconv 05-24-2006 06:36 PM

the front tires are 265/35/18 the rear are 285/40/18 with the bigger tires in the back it sat really high off the ground, and had way too much bulge so i put 265 s on the back i have to get some new pics up

what is "MM's starter box" ??

zigzaggthefag321 05-24-2006 07:12 PM

Nevermind...I found it. With that setup, what happens to the "Quad shock" ?

BraggStang 05-24-2006 07:48 PM

Depends on what you want the car for?? Daily driver, or for the Drag Strip??? For the strip lowering your car will make you slower, (Weight Transfer) lowering the car for looks i'm all for it....Cars look tougher lowered, but for the track it sucks......

get some tubular rear control arms and you can take off the quad shocks.

believe me, you won't have rubbing issues with that. I had MM Lower CA's and I didn't have one rubbing problem. Even with this ass...

Mmm and what an ass it was.:punk:

r3dn3ck 05-25-2006 08:30 AM

stop worrying about the quad shocks.. they're not hurting anything and they aren't going to rub with a standard lowering.

Just call MM and you won't ever have to worry about the info being correct or not. They're very friendly and they actually know for a fact what's what.

depends on the tires you're running in back. my bfg drag radials (315/35/17) were barely rubbing the quad shocks so i took off the quad shocks. makes no difference since i have upper and lower control arms. bfg's are wider than most other tires.

edit: i also have 5/16" spacers and they were still rubbing with those. but they never came close to rubbing when i was running sumitomo tires out back. only the bfg's.
