MM Starter box?
 

I am 18 and have a 97 GT....my dad has a Morgan plus 8 and it is impossible for me to keep up with him around turns because the stock suspension sucks. i want to upgrade it to something worthy of of challenging the plus 8. is the MM starter box a good choice?

Anything from Maximum Motorsports is a great choice. They are the company that people like to copy. The started set would be a great choice and deffinetly will offer DRAMATIC positive changes in your handling. They DO come with race springs which are a really firm spring so it may be a bumpy ride with daily driving.

do you know how much lower it will be? i dont want the rice rocket look where the car falls apart going over a speed bump. does anyone have a pic of the kit installed?

Lowers 1.0-1.75 inches in front and .75-1.25 inches in the rear, depending on year and model of your Mustang.
mine is lowered with h&r sport springs and its 1.5 up front and 1.6 in rear I believe.

also i have herd it is a good idea to use energysuspension polyutherane bushings or something since my car has 95,000 now,

I have a 97 Saleen and being 9 years old, yes i would change a few things out. They say go poly cause it flexs less than the stock rubber ones and your's is old anyways. Lowering it, having front and rear sway bars, subframe connectors, will help alot on the corners. If you do lower it, get new endlinks for lowered cars, they have poly bushings, offset steering rack bushings (poly also) also get some poly isolators for you springs. You can also take off your front A arms and have those bushing replaced with poly bushings. Then maybe some rear control arms, they come with poly bushings also. Just some ideas.....

You'll need to really define your goals for the car better. Are you looking to street drive a lot, drag race, road race, drive like a jackazz on the street?

MM is the premier suspension parts maker for street and track driven stangs. Griggs is what I'd choose for a track only car because they're lighter weight parts. Call MM, ask them. They'll tell you EVERYTHING you want and need to know. Their helpful, experienced sales and technical staff can build a combo for you for whatever your goals are. Don't take advice from people here before you ask MM. Nothing bad on the people here... hell Saleen S330 and me both know our way around suspension pretty well but, MM knows more.

Sometimes i race my dads Morgan plus eight at willow springs race track...like i said my stang blow at turns and i allways spin out the rear. Morgans handel the best out of nearly every car i have driven. i want to be able to shoot through the hair pin like the Morgan. yeah i will be driving on the street most of the time. and no i am not a jackazz driver i only burn off ricers with fart cannon's. gas is way to expensive! i just want a suspension set up that will keep my stang stuck to the road and less body roll. right now the suspension is bone stock...my dad says dont do anything to the suspension unless you get it done proffesionally with all new parts... else the geometry will be thrown off and it will be worse. Also i got smoked by a 914 those mid engine's fly around turns.

That is one of my morgan's...i have a 1964 which was used in ncis the tv series....i am not making this up if you want photos of them filming it i can put them up!

A morgan is a genuine british sports car. They handle incredibly well for as old as they are.

If you want to handle really well it's one thing. If you're losing the rear end in tight turns then you need to work on your technique (not baggin... just a serious suggestion) for that corner.


The starter box is just a spring and dampner package. It's not going to help much. If you're going to be looking for serious conering grip on the track and still want street manners, then I'd probably let the starter box go and try something like the Road and Track box. I've run it and it's fuhqin KILLER. You'll be able to maintain street manners and ride but you'll not even recognize the handling. You can forsake the steering shaft, endlinks and K-member brace since you'll not probably be able to appreciate them without a hotter setup.

That's basically as far as you can go without a coil-over conversion. A coil over conversion with tubular front arms can cut several seconds off your time from even the R&T kit but it's a grand more (worth every penny). You'll want the RLCA's and other parts that you get wtih the R&T kit to eliminate the bind that you'd otherwise get. The panhard bar will help keep the rear end stable as you approach the limit but without a Torque arm you'll never see much in the way of increased grip.

For the ultimate, there's nothing that even touches the Max Grip kit. I have it and OMFG is it great.

If you want the best advice, then call MM and ask them. Trust me, they're right helpful and they won't hard-sell you stuff. You get what you can afford and it'll all work.

You need to realize something before you get started. Your mustang will probably NEVER handle like the Morgan does. Now that that is outta the way, go for the MM stuff. The starter box is a GREAT choice, and really gets everything you need. Next I would suggest the rear grip package with the control arms and the panhard rod.
