4.10 Gears
 

i was thinking bout buying the 4.10 gears i was wondering do i have to buy the master bearing kit with it or is it easy to install the gears? basically i wanna buy new gears for my 02 gt just tell me what to get and ill buy it and install it

Gears are not for the novice to install. Find an installer first, then buy your gears. Under 50k miles you can buy just the ring and pinion. Over 50k its recommended to get the master rebuild kit. But its up to you and the installer.

My installer told me just to get the ring and pinion and he had the rest. Most installers have so many shims and left over parts from gear installs that they have enough shims and small parts for you.

Do not try and do this yourself, even if you could and I know I could if i had the tools, Thats the problem. The professional guages and tools you need to do it right cost way too much for just a one time install.

There is a local guy here everyone uses and does gear installs for $200, which is a bargain. He's done 5 Jobs for me in 15 years and never a problem and never any gear noise.

Where you located at. Ask around on the forums here to find a local installer. Or call 4x4 shops or speed shops to find an installer. Your Local Ford dealer can do installs, but it wont be cheap.

Yeah..as stated above..don't try to do the install if you've never done it! Depending on the mileage of your car, will determine wether or not you need the bearing kit or not! :D

i am really really desperate for power though, i just didnt wanna ruin my car cause i go on the highway daily.

Well if youre planning on adding a power adder I'd recommend 3.73's, which is what I've got! I'm running juice so 3.73's are perfec! 4.10 and higher would be good for n/a combos!:D

What he said... also, do you have a slush box, or a manual. Either way I think 4.10's would be a little more gear than you'd want if you do alot of highway driving. Also, I think someone said something about ford dealers doing installs. I called my local dealer when I was looking for an install, and they said they only install O.E.M. but your local dealer could be different.

my mustang is a manual, i have no problem for spending the extra money for the install - i just want a professional job you know , ill start doing some research on 3.73's, thanks.

Im pretty happy with my 3.73s. Now that I have mufflers that dont drone, they are perfect. The RPM at 60 in 5th is like 2100 and it if anything, improved my mileage because I can stay in 5th and use it now. My car is squirrly enough in the wet as it is, so I cant imagine 4.10s in the rain, but Im sure they would be fun in a weekend car, along with flowmasters and a prochamber, but for a daily driver, Id stick with the 3.73's.

I was looking at putting the 4.10 in my 98 Gt, but was then told that it might be better to change the rear end completely from the 8.8" to the 9" with 4.10 all ready. Any thought on what would be better? Maybe even the 3.73, i do alot of in town driving but not highway. Im looking for more power then anything.

Get the 4.10s If you had 2.73s to begin with, you might feel the difference getting 3.73s. If your one of the guys that run 90mph then you might should get 3.73, you you stay with traffic. The 4.10s would be fine on the highway.

what would be my rpm at 60-65mph in 5th on the highway? i used to see a gear rpm calculator but i cant find it anymore

who honestly goes 65-70 on the highway? i wanna know my rpms at 85mph.

LOL, little ole me with the high school insurance rate that doesnt get to keep his car if he gets a ticket...and I even pay for it.

sucks for you but i cant go under 80 on the highway. **** the highway patrol does 90mph
ps if you scared of tickets get a valentine 1 and read the motor trend article on speeding it has good info. but most get a V1 they rule. i love mine.

I dont do exactly the limit...lol usually keep it about 6 or 7 over. Just really depends how lucky I feel I guess. I watch carefully.
