Oil In Exhaust Pipes?
 

Hello Anyone! I hope I don't sound to stupid for my lack of engine knowledge. Anyway, I just recently installed a 302 in my 66 and everything went fine until after about 100 miles. My drivers-side exhaust pipe constantly blows white smoke and both pipes spray very small amounts of oil out the back. I understand that a new engine will smoke during the break-in stage, which it did, but when I started driving it, after that period, it was fine until I hit just over 100 miles. The new block and heads have been professionaly tested and read fine, but the problem still ocurs. Does anyone have any idea what I can do or what it is that is causing this? All of the gaskets were installed correctly and there are no leaks at all, anywhere. I guess I am just a bit confussed.

P.S. Is it just me or does anytime you take your Mustang to a shop it seems to be running just fine and dandy but once you get it back home whatever it was that you wanted checked on comes right back and laughs at you. My girlfriend has named the Stang "Stingy" and boy is it ever, but I don't care I still love it to death. Thanks for your help!!!

Unless you went out hit the rev limiter in every gear soon as the engine was installed, this is my guess, but I wonder if the piston rings are the correct ones and were installed correctly. If not, oil could be getting sucked into the combustion chamber thus giving you white smoke. I would talk to whoever you got the engine from or who built it.

Sounds plausable to me, have you done compression tests to see if your getting blow-by?

white smoke means blown head gasket. when the gasket blows it lets coolante go into the head and thus gives white smoke. as for the oil its most likly the coolante that didnt get burned up and is being pushed out the tail pipes giveing a black water looking substance that i could see you mistaking for oil. but anyhoot its a head gasket garented.

I think dustin nailed it! When I was reading your post, i was thinking "it might only look like oil, but I bet it's coolant".

Thank You to everyone for your input. I will take it in to the place where the engine was built this weekend and have them check the head gaskets, thank God for the warranty. I bet you guys are right about me mistaking the substance as oil when it is probably coolant. I really appreciate all of the input I have been givin. This is a great forum!!!

That thought had crossed my mind too, blue smoke is burnt oil, I gots mixed up.

yeah blue is oil, black is to much fuel, and white is water aka coolant.
