I am about to purchase the 03/04 Cobra SVT hood and I heard there is a kit to make it into a ram air. Im not sure where to look if there is one... If not has anyone heard of doing this and has some pointers?

I am not gonna get in a long argument as it is late, I am tired, and I have been down this road, but ram air is a myth...an urban legend. It does not work...there is no basis in fact. Sure the teeny boppers think it looks cool, but that is all it does...PERIOD.

Try watching an NMRA event with dozens and dozens of cars running the 1/4 mile at 175+ mph and you won't see a single one with one....sure many of those use a PA, but you get my point.

A so called ram air system is nothing more then a cold air intake....that is it.

even if ram air DID work, it would only work in reverse with that hood..lol

:D tru....But I would rather make something work with it thats why i was asking becaus of the fact it wont be used...unless I just let it "cool" the engine.

You cant "RAM" air into a motor unless it is compressed and forced like a turbo or supercharger can do. you can not make the engine take in more air then it can suck in on its own. its not gonna happen the only good thing about it is you get nice cool air to the engine which does help.

But what about those old school cars that had Ram Air? I thought that it gives the engine fresh air instead of underhood air. Its really just like having a cold air intake or something. The reason they had them on the old cars is because they were carburated and that was the best way to get cool air into the top of the carb like that. On some of the older cars the RAM air would actually be a big flap that opened up right in front of the windshield when you got up to speed. Its badass. I took my headlight out one day and it seemed to rev quicker. Maybe it was just the placebo effect but maybe not. If drag cars can put a hole in their bumper for the turbo then I can take my headlight out and no its not rice when we do that. :D

i thought you could take the black pieces off and the hood would then extract heat...at least this is what i have heard

The air rushing over the heat extractors will pull some of the hot air out of the engine bay. I would expect no power gain tho.

definately no power gain maybe lower temps.

only thing it doesnt is let hot air come out from the engine compartment. Which is a nice touch.

agreed, no power gains(unless it lets alot of heat out and helps the car run effiecently)...but im sure that this heat extraction is not major and those kind of gains wont happen
