Hey all.
newb here asking some questions.

im looking at trading my 97 Sierra for a 94 cobra with mods.
beautiful looking car, but it has a tranny problem.

he told me that if i didn't put the clutch pedal all the way to the floor when shifting to 2nd it won't go in gear. 20% of the time when it does it feels like it wants to pop back out, but it doesn't.

anyone know what that would be? would it be an expensive fix?

i don't have the car yet. that is the only thing scaring me about the trade since i need the car as a DD.

It could go both ways, expensive or not so. It kinda sounds like the clutch is worn out. If so you are basicaly doing the same as if the clutch failed. Trying to mesh the gears through engine rpm. Does it have an aftermarket shifter? Most have a set screw or bolt stop for both forward and back. If the stops are not set right, then that would give the feeling that it wants to pop out. If not then it could be an internal problem with the transmission. It is a used Cobra right. Or maybe the clutch just needs to be adjusted properly.

he said it had a new clutch and a resurfaced flywheel. i didn't see where it had a STS.

Then it seems that the problem was there before the new clutch. Which would explain the clutch change. I had an old Bronco ll one time that did something similar and I had to change the trans because I screwed up the syncros. Also when I learned that Ford put mitsubishi transmissions in Broncos.

Buy the cobra and look on craigslist for a T5 in your area from another mustang.

Alternately, it sounds like a synchro problem and it'll cost a couple hundred bucks to have it fixed. I'd have it rebuilt with upgraded components and have yourself a fine durable T5.

Another thought... Is there a short shifter on the car? If so could be out of adjustment.
