Mach I Question

Today my dad's truck needed to get fixed so he got a Mach I as a loaner car from the dealership (2004) so I'm wondering, what are the 0-60 and quarter mile times on a stock 2004 Mach I? I know it's damn fast I'm guessing around 5 seconds 0-60 cuz it set me back in the seat about the same as the new style GT I test drove...

Do they make Mach I's for 05-06?

dannyb785 03-20-2006 07:55 PM

no. it was only made for 03 and 04. They were gonna do a mach 1 for the new body style, but from what I read, ford ditched the plan but will make a Boss mustang with the shelby's 5.4 liter but just not supercharged.

jeredan2003 03-20-2006 08:02 PM

Mach 1's are fast. They run mid 13's in the 1/4 and they look great! High compression is a bad thing though....

dannyb785 03-20-2006 08:08 PM

my bad. Mach 1's have been 0-60 around 5.1 in magazines and running mid 13's stock. They have 3.55's and the cobra's 4v engine to make 305 hp. The new 05/06 GT has 300 hp so thats why they felt similar

customstang 03-20-2006 09:03 PM

"High compression is a bad thing though" huh?

And how bout weight and stuff? So the Mach I's run about the same as new GT's or faster or slower?

What is there for easy mods that make worthwhile power?

I think what he meant about the high compression is that it makes them harder to super charge.

I haven't put my Mach on a scale, but they generally weigh around 3.400lbs, which is lighter than the 05/06 GT's. I believe MM&FF ripped off a 13.1 1/4 in a stock mach, but I think average times are mid 13's. I've posted a video of a dude in a mach with just Nitto Dr's and Mac Prochamber and he ripped off a 12.5 1/4. That's super fast.

As for modding, my mach put down 304rwhp & 330rwtq (SAE) with just....Magnaflow catback, mac prochamber w/cats, K&N FIPK II and Dyno tune. So there is some power to be made from just simple mods, but there is more to be made with upgraded cams and long tube headers, which can put you in that 320-335rwhp range

Yes a Mach is basically a non-supercharged cobra with a solid rear axle. MM&FF did 10 in the 1/4 with a stock Mach and a Kenne Bell Blowzilla. But as some know they learned the Mach's fatal flaw. It has GT 2V connecting rods. Their words, we vented the block. I think the pistons are cast too but I'm not sure about that. Why, why, why! I would have paid Ford extra to forge the bottom end. It was made two years. That means it is rare enough to be worth keeping. It just doesn't make sense to me. And who gives a Mach as a loaner?! Around here it would have been an Escort! By far, a Mach is a great car to start slapping on the bolt-ons.

jjtgiants 03-21-2006 01:57 PM

Dude that's a great point.....who or what dealership on earth gives a Mach 1 out for a loaner???? That's really weird....that's like giving out a Cobra or Bullitt as a loaner....very strange.

csn416524 03-21-2006 02:10 PM

Seriously! "I had to take my Yugo in for service and I got a Lamborgini as a loaner" Dang!

jeredan2003 03-21-2006 02:16 PM

Theres an 03 Cobra loaner car at the dealer in nashville. Only for 03 cobra drivers im sure......

csn416524 03-21-2006 02:22 PM

Now that makes sense. Sucks but makes sense.

jjtgiants 03-21-2006 02:29 PM

That does make sense.......hmmmm.....maybe I should take mine in and ask for a 06 GT and just beat the crap out of it! ha ha ha

Just remember that although Mustangs can be expensive (especially for kids), remember that $25,000 isn't much compared to the price of a new F-350 Diesel Truck. When the Ford sales rep knows your background and has sold several $50,000 Super Duty's to your dad and a few F-150's to your mom, all in the last couple of years, they trust my dad (and me) with the keys to a $25000 Mach I.

They know I'm responsible enough to enjoy the car without abusing it. It was for one night, while my dad's new truck was getting serviced. Plus the sales guy knew I have been looking for a new Mustang with lots of power so he knew I'd like seeing a Mach I in my driveway when I come home from school one day.

Trust me, any John Doe can't just walk off the street and take home a Mach I for a night, some people that look responsible enough to test drive it, but very few are allowed to take one home. And when your family purchases a lot of vehicles from them (and also trades them back in in excellent, near mint condition after 50,000 miles) they earn your trust.

EDIT: So yea, take in a $50,000 new vehicle for service and get a used car worth less than half of that definately seems like a fair trade.

jjtgiants 03-22-2006 11:12 AM

Oh I hear what your saying and agree, I was thinking of it more from a limited "special edition" vehicle and why they would give it out as a loaner and why they would even have the damn thing as a loaner in the first place. To me it just seemed like a waste of a Mach....that's all...My post wasn't directed at you or your family or trying to say your family didn't disserve the mach as a loaner.....just trying to figure out why on earth they would even have the mach as a loaner! :beerchug:

csn416524 03-22-2006 12:53 PM

Same here. No disrespect intended. It's good to see that some dealerships do take care of loyal customers.

customstang 03-22-2006 06:05 PM

no offense taken, i understand you're guys' thinking...

it's not really a loaner vehicle, they just had it in stock and they let my family take it home for a night, it's not like it's there purposely as a loaner.

So now I'm wondering, if I buy a Mach I, how much will it take to beat a Corvette, like atleast say in the quarter mile? I know the top end would be hard cuz they are so light and aerodynamic...

So 400hp and a little lighter, I know they are crazy fast but how fast are they really? Quarter mile times stock?

What mods would I need to take one on and not get slaughtered?

Probably won't happen for atleast a couple years though because I wont have money.

csn416524 03-22-2006 06:54 PM

First mod is very expensive and it is a must. Unfortunatly it is so expensive that very few can aFORD it. The part number is A-PRAYER4U. And myself right now. So simmer. That's a big plate. Start small, like the want a be ricers. They are fun to play with. Then you will cross a real deal ricer. That sucks but there are more mods to come. Be patient young grasshopper. Chevy don't play when it comes to just a base vette. Z06 comes with a video on how to change the suspension for road track. They can be beat but it's expensive. Our Cobras out there are our best shot at them. For now, just waiting on the 2007 Shelby Cobra.

Mach as I said is a great platform to start with if you can't aFORD a cobra. A few cheap mods and a couple costly ones and your pony will run with cobras. Then it's Vette time.

How come in Greg's link it says the Mach I and Vette have about the same quarter mile time, and it's faster than the 2001 Cobra? I dont mean outrun a Vette at over 100mph... I'm just talking quarter mile

csn416524 03-22-2006 07:26 PM

Point was, you want to mod a car to beat another car. What do you think they are doing. And the few that don't mod wouldn't drag it either.
