Default my gt or an 01 cobra?

nd no, I'm not talking racing because I know I'll get smoked

I love my car, but like everyone want more power. I've also got a bit of the automatic blues and am wishing for a stick shift.

Lately I've been looking at 99/01 Cobras and Mach 1's.

Right now I pay $269 a month on my GT. I have roughly 3 years left on the loan. I've been offered a trade-in value of $13900 for it at Power Ford. I owe about 9600 on it, and the car has 42k miles.

Power has an 01 Cobra for sale, Dark Red with Tan Interior, 15k miles. Their asking price is $19991. Through nothing more than a phone conversation I got it down to $18400.

At that price trading my car in, financed through my work at the employee rate I'd pay $302.18 for 60 months. Of course I'm going to try to talk them down more... at 17,500 I'd be paying 283.37 for 60 months. Insurance would go up $200 a year.

Its a longer term but it gets me a car with a few more years life left in it, an extra 60hp right off the bat, a 5 speed, IRS, and theoretically a Stang that will hold its value better. Red however isnt exactly my 1st choice.

I could pull all the mods except the 01 Bumper, Suspension, catback, and 4.10's off the GT, and use a majority of them on the Cobra, or sell them.

Financially this seems like its right on the line of making sense/not making sense.. it could go either way. Obviously its cheaper to keep the GT, but this Cobra isnt out of my reach.

What do you guys think? BTW... I haven't driven the Cobra yet, because I know if I do, I'm going to want it even more.

Hmmm. Just think, Next year that 01 will be a 5 year old car. You can get an 03 Cobra for around 23 to 25 grand. I saw an 04 Cobra for 28 grand here in town. If you can get that trade in value on your GT. your payments wouldn't go up too much. It seems to me though that purchasing a used Cobra has its risks. You never know what that little darlin has been through.. She may have been rode hard and put away wet. Any year, could spell trouble. Forced induction motor will see some abuse. IMHO...

I also say hold off on it. Drive the GT, and pretty soon, youll have a lot more of it paid off. Then you can do like me and slip into a cobra. Also, 18400 for a 01 cobra is really steep. I wouldnt pay more than 17 for one. But thats just me. Also consider insurance increases in the cost.
