Default Interested in writing up tech articles for Gift Certificates?

We're thinking of putting up a section on the website dedicated to articles on the Mustang. I want to check with you guys to see how many of you would be interested in writing up these articles. We're looking to set up a program where you would write up articles in return for gift certificates or some other type of compensation. The exact amount of the compensation has yet to be determined but one possibility is you'll get a bigger bonus if the write up is based on a product that you purchased from us. You would only be compensated if we were to publish your article on our website.

I'm looking for installation guides for products that we carry, how-to guides for maintenance, or any other kind of article you think would be helpful. Even if it's just an installation guide, I would need it to have at least a one page description of what the mod does and why you would want it. The articles would have be highly detailed with pictures and diagrams where applicable.

Again, this thread is only to gauge the amount of interest. I want to see if we should implement this program and if we should make changes to the program based on your feedback. Please post if you would be interested, what topic you would want to write about, and any suggestions you may have.

I am very interested as I have bought many different items from MT that I would have paid to see directions(the company's inst's sucked) so I can do it for...

bumper inserts
grill delete
slp loudmouth install
MT x-pipe
MT license plate frame(just for kicks)
Steeda wing

and soon with the purchase of my side exhaust, I would be sure to make some instructions for that as well.

I also have had an idea for a good while about a general/overall tutorial beginner's guide to bolt-on performance. I used to be clueless to even what "catback" "x-pipe" even meant. And I also had no clue what a cold-air intake/throttle body/plenum even did! Now that I know, I'm positive that an easy-to-read guide would greatly help the site because newbies could know where to start when make performance purchases. PM me or email me at dannyb785@hotmail.com and I would love to help.

I think that is a great idea! I have actually had that thought myself and I would be in complete support of this.

BTW, who are you? - LOL.

New2gt: You convince someone else you supply you with the supercharger and maybe I'll consider paying for the install how about that? :toothy9:

I've been with the company for about 4 years but only involved specifically with the Mustang Tuning store for the past few weeks. I also recently bought a 2002 Sonic Blue GT Convertible. I'll try to get some pictures and do a proper introduction in another thread in the future.

Sorry to make such a hasty thread but this is something we want to implement as soon as possible if there is a good reaction from you guys. If it works out well, it's going to benefit everyone involved. People reading the articles can learn about their cars, people writing the articles will get compensated, and Mustang Tuning will become an even better place to go for Mustang parts.

Please keep in mind that we want to keep the quality of these articles as high as possible. Therefore, only a select number of those submitted would get published on the site. We want a substantial amount of research to go into each of these articles. If you're interested, please post in the thread even if it's for something that someone else has already

Default Technical Writeups

I would be interested in something like that. The only product I have purchased from Mustangtuning.com is the Venom VCN 1000 Nitrous Kit for my 1997 Mustang Cobra. I am currently a rising Senior at the University Of North Carolina at Charlotte recieving a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a Motorsports Concentration.

I have taken courses in technical writing and would be happy to write such an article and/or give tips on how to write a comprehensive write-up.

I have completed Dyno pulls on the nitrous with a reputable tuner. I have a gathered a fair amount of information concerning this nitrous kit, and am pursuing more information from one of the technical representatives at Venom Performance. I can compile the information gathered from my experiences as well as testing the limits of the system (i have sent my venom controller out to Venom Performance to have it customized and sent two larger Nitrous jets .060" 100 Shot and .065" 125 Shot.)

Anyway, as this materializes I would appreciate the oppurtunity to participate in something like this.

Thank you for your time and attention in this manner.

:toothy9: Maybe someday...Probably no time soon...the whole tech write-ups are a pretty good idea. A lot of people could benefit from instructions written by regular people...most of the time instructions are vague and sometimes hard to understand...good luck!

I'd be very intersted.

Ones that I can think of off the top of my head that I could write are lowering/suspension, x-pipe, and how to install an aftermarket automatic shift **** with a shift boot.

I would also be happy to write stuff up, if you look at my mod list I have the exact amount of how much money I've spent here (most of my mods were purchased at MT).. and all installs have been done right here at home in our very small 1 car garage. I also have pictures of everything being installed (the whole process) and I actually made a short movie of the exhaust install with very short descriptions, which can be downloaded here http://www.csledd.com/ellie/exhaust/exhaust-video.wmv

like i said, im glad to help out

i hope to have another video of the 4.10 gear install next week *gear install postponed hopefully the shipment will be here soon!

If you think about it anyone can write an article on anything. There should be some kind of limit on what actually counts and what doesnt. For example I dont think you should get anything for doing a write up on bumper inserts or anything that simple. You also have to be careful of people taking other peoples write ups. One more thing, you have to look at how popular the write ups are, if someone submits one that you can find all over the internet then they shouldnt get as much or anything for it. Other then those things I think its a great idea and I have a bunch to submit.

Sorry for not updating this thread. It looks like there's a significant amount of interest so we'll have to work out some of the details and get started.

You make some good points. The articles would have to be exclusive. One way we thought about limiting the articles was to make it so that you have to submit an article on an item that you purchased from us. However, that will probably exclude a lot of good, helpful writeups.

Right now the limitations that I'm looking at are, that you would only benefit if your article was actually published, that it would have to be a certain length with a certain number of pictures related to the article, and that it would have to be exclusive to us. Hopefully these rules would keep the quality of the content high enough that further restrictions won't be needed.

At this point, let me know if you have any suggestions for the structure of the program itself. I've been pretty vague with it so let me know what you think would work and what won't. Thanks guys.

I have a few suggestions to try and make the most of this effort.

The best way to do the articles would be to standardize the format and organization of each article. It will be difficult to do this somewhat - as someone's article will have to be the basis for all others. There are methods in practice in industry for providing instructions on how to install items...some being better then others. (And as all you gearheads know the instructions that come with 99% of aftermarket parts are Vague at best.) And this format could be followed for the most part, with a few differences being more pictures and video where applicable.

Articles can be divided into either Mod-Specific catagories such as Performance/Exterior/Interior/Suspension/Rear End etc. And each specific article could have a rating of difficulty and specifications/benefits of each part in a well organized and presentable manner.

Some articles could not only be about specific installation and results of installing a particular item...but for instance someone with some firsthand experience could write articles about builing a 300rwhp or 12 second Bolt-On GT etc. showcasing some of the items providing by Mustangtuning.com of which many are a necessity to these goals (i.e. Tuner, Exhaust,Headers, Gears, etc.)

Another neat thing (also very useful in determining which gears one would like to purchase) would be to have a gear calculator with specific RPM etc. and variables for different types of Transmissions (For instance T5,T45, T3650, T-56 etc. each having their own specific gear ratios), which Gear (1st-5/6th) and RPM. Also a list of which Speedometer gears are necessary for which specific gear sets (although I don't believe that Mustangtuning.com Carries these items.) The same could be had for Fuel Systems Calculators for injectors etc. based on different values for injectors in Forced Induction,N/A, Nitrous applications and their respective Base Specific Fuel Consumption (B.S.F.C.) Values to give people ballpark figures of their fuel system capabilities, as well as ratings for Pumps at a given psi and rated Flow etc. This would be more pertinent if more fuel system Items were offered here at Mustangtuning.com (which I trust in the future will be the case.)

I would agree that the articles should be exlusive to MT if in return some kind of compensation is made. I doubt that anyone recieving compensation would have a problem with that though.

I think that the Customer's Rides section was a great Idea as it allows for a personal aspect of the website. This will be a simliar good addition in my opinion. If there was a customers ride section with something like Car Bio and stats on the car. We could even post time slips or pics/videos of customer cars, that would be interesting as well.

That's all I have for now. I would like to see this materialize...and of course, I'd like to be a part of it.

I just saw this thread.

I would be interested. Basically, I write for a living. Everything I do in my field of work requires techincal write-ups of some sort.

I have many published articles and would love to write about my Mustang or Mustangs in general.

Alright, it seems like we have a pretty good response so far and there have been some good ideas. We'll try to get moving on this formally fairly soon and we'll make another announcement so that you guys know what we are expecting.

BTW, the customer rides section was always intended to be much better than it is currently. We'll also be updating that section in the coming weeks.
