Default What fuel do you use?

Filled up just before I came back from lunch today....decided to pay 10 cents more for the mid-grade unleaded.....got me to thinking....what do you guys put in your 'Stangs? Regular, mid-grade, premium? Why? I know it's rough with gas prices where they are right now, I just paid $3.72/gal, rediculous.

I'm assuming benefits of 87+ octane fuel is solvents/detergents, etc.?

I use the regular 87 octane gas in my car. But then again 87 octane is about $3.40 up here. I see $4 a gallon coming this summer. Not looking forward to spending my pay checks on gas.

you should only use the octane that your car is tuned for. Using high grade fuels will harm the motor in the long run if its not suppose to be filled with high grade. A sixer should only use regular unless its tuned for premium gas.

yeah it won't hurt once only causes problems when people constantly fill up with the wrong octane. I just changed the tune on my car. Regulars almost at $4 a gallon so I moved mine down to the 87 gas millage tune i have haha. Screw the performance tunes for now haha

I just realized this thread only has red mustangs in it.

now we just have to wait for one of the "rental cars" to chime in and ruin it for everyone.

I use what my car is tuned for, 87. I used 93 in my sixxer becuase it was tuned for it. I will eventually use 93 in the GT. I'm real picky about what brand of fuel I use though. I use only Shell or Exxon unless I'm somewhere unfamiliar and I need gas quickly. I won't use Wal-mart gas or anything like that.

I usually use 91 octane. I just put the recomended 87 in my car (04 GT)for the first time ever ( due to gas $). I was shocked!! It runs better on cheaper gas! You are all correct, run what the car is tuned for.

did you get a tune to lower the octane? because the octane for a GT is premium not regular

i need 93 in my stang cause of its tune.

regardless of price, the difference between low grade and high grade is only about 3 bucks a tank on average.

the more the gas prices rise the more i like my honda. 40MPG FTW!!!!!!

ok, here's my deal. got a stock 98 svt. owner's manual calls for 91 rating. only thing around here anymore is 87 or 93. which way should i go? i've used both, & don't really see a difference in performance. on highway, i do get better mileage with 93. thoughts?

It was only the cobras that came tuned from the factory for premium.

BTW, I run either BP/Amoco or Shell premium 93.

That's not smart since our cars aren't designed for it. Hope you didn't corrode anything since E85 requires it's own tune and stainless steel fuel components.

As for me, 87 since that's what Ford says. 89 if I know I'm going to do some beating but that's it. 91/93 is pointless unless you engine is tune for it.

As for brand, Exxon/Mobil, BP/Amaco (Ford recommended), Valero, and Shell are the best. Getty is junk, haven't used Lukoil but gf says it's good, Sunoco is great but dirty, and Citgo is borderline. Anything else is a mixed bag.
