You know when you rev up the engine and it seems to take forever for the idle speed to return. Is there something that can be done about that. I have heard of a "quick idle return" gasket or something like it that will fix this problem, but can't find any info about it.

any ideas on how to get the idle to return quicker after reving? It sounds cheesy the way it hangs like that.


Ok, I also just read where your tuner can fix this, anyone had this fixed through a tune?

 

Do you have a new upper intake? The aftermarket intakes have the hole blocked that causes that to happen. If you have a stock upper intake, then there is a mod you can do (basically a piece of sheet metal that's shaped like the gasket but it blocks off one of the holes to the IAC, then you drill out a small hole in the sheet metal to allow some air to pass). Again, if you already have the aftermarket intake, then it's a computer issue that needs to be sorted out. Basically, clear the computer and then restart you car but don't touch anything, let it run at idle for 7-10 minutes (I think) and then start the AC and let it idle another 7-10 minutes. That should reestablish all the baseline ranges. Then driving it around should get the idle to stop hanging. It could also just be a dirty IAC and a little carb cleaner will fix the issue.

I'm have an auto too and I hate the sound of that hanging idle. My old '66 with a carb sounds much meaner, partly because of the quick return to idle after a rev.

 

I know what you mean. Mines for sale, but if it works with you I might spend the pocket change to do that.

 

Ok folks, I got my gasket today and installed it. It took all of about 5 minutes total and most of that time was looking for my 8mm socket.

It does work, but it still doesn't idle down as fast as a carb. motor. Initially it idled a bit rough till the computer caught on that something was different, and after that it idled fine. When you start the car it no longer has that aggressive rumbling sound like someone just pressed the gas real quick.

For a manual car this could be fun, but for an auto like mine it just wasn't worth the $7 and 5 minutes it took to do it.
