Just wanted to say hello.
Have been a member for awhile but this is my first post. I currently own 2 stangs, a 90 LX with a 347 stroker, TKO-600 and 3.73's out back and my daily driver (just aquired), 2000 GT bone stock.
Being new to the 4.6 scene I must say I am not up to speed on the mod motors.
I drive my '90 when I want to go tear up the streets and '00 for daily driving.
My question is what can be done to the 4.6 for effective seat of my pants mod? I have spent alot of money on the '90 to make it what it is and don't plan on putting near that much in the '00 but I do want it to get out of it's own way when I stomp it. Any suggestions?
As I said it is BONE stock right down to the factory airbox. Does anyone know what gears came stock in the rear end? Any one have any issues with the T-45 5 speed in these. Being that these motors are SOHC I would imagine that a cam(s) swap would be expensive. Is it possible to put 3V or 4V heads off a Mach 1 or Cobra on a stock 4.6 GT?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Richard

since its your daily driver and you have another car thats way faster i would just do a drop in K&N filter (full intake upgrades dont do much of anything on our cars.) and pull the intake silencer as well. Do an off road mid pipe and catback and call it a day. Thats just me as you already have a fast mustang to play with.

Also the stock gears are 3.27 in our cars.

I read somewhere that there was a recall on some 4.6's for the intake cracking? Does anyone know what this applied too?
Also, what and where is the intake silencer? On the '90, I went thru the usual bolt-ons: throttle body, mass air, egr blank-off ect... does this not have the same effect on the 4.6 as it does on the 5.0?
It's funny, when I started modifying the 5.0, I made it fast first and left the body and suspension alone. With the '00 I know I am not going to make near the car the '90 is, so my priorities have changed. I am considering body kits and lowering springs first, any suggestions there? Am I posting this in the wrong forum? Let me know.
Thanks again for the advice.
Richard
By the way, I work for a company here in Tennessee that sells Tremec TKO's. I am not a salesman and this is not a sales pitch for the company, just thought I would throw it out there if anyone wants to upgrade their current tranny for a bullet proof TKO. We can easily mate it up to the 4.6.

Body kit: only Cobra, SAleen or Roush (I would say roush) NO BLACK WIDOW!

Suspension: H&R or Eibach

full exhaust: Magnapacks, o/r h or prochamber

gears (3:27 or 4:10)

The air silence is just the plastic piece where the air filter is (http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/intke.htm)

Thumbs up

Thanks for the link showing the silencer, never knew about it.
Does anyone know anything about the recall for the intakes cracking? I read somewhere that it involved 96-02 4.6 2v but not sure if it was all or just some of them? Anyone ever had an issue with this?

There was a recall for for the plastic intake because mine broke. it cracks on the passanger side right behind the altenator. when its cracks it spray out radiator fluild. They made an upgrade with metal in the front where the radiator goes into the intake. I would check if there was a recall on your year

If you want a nice fun mod i would just go ahead and throw in 4:10's. yer gonna feel a lot more difference with the gears than any of the boltons.
Because this is my daily driver and I drive 100 miles round trip to work every day, I don't think 4.10's would be right for me. I am seriously considering 3.73's though as I have them in my '90 and love 'em.

Any idea where I would check to find out if my car was involved in this recall?

mine is a DD... well..WAS a DD untill i bought an old civic to beat on. 4:10's really had very minimal effect on my highway MPG... i think i lost half a mile per gallon.... i also got a diablo tuner at the same time, and that is said to increase mileage a little.
but yeah, ive been keeping an eye on it and i hit about 19mpg highway and 19 city.
I wasn't too concerned with the MPG, right now I am getting about 22 mpg. I am more worried about high RPM's with the 4.10's. I drive 70 mph and now with the stock gears, turn 2000rpm. In my '90 with 3.73's at 70mph I am turning 2250. I don't want to constantly turn 2500+ with 4.10's.

The modular engines love to rev....however sometimes, depending on what exhaust set up you have the 2,500 rpms can put you in the "drone" range, which can get annoying.

w/ 4.10s..if u do 80mph ur only at like 2700 rpm in 5th..so i would imagine that 70 would be at like 2300-2400..which is wat i cruse at in 4th @ 60

Your car isn't in the recall. This only applies to the pre PI head engines where the coolant crossover was plastic instead of the 99+ PI Aluminum piece.

Really? I thought I read on the recall this was fixed with the new PI heads. My fault, I'm a newbie at this as well.
