Dyno for the 5.4

Pro dyno ran the dyno tune on it tonight and the results are

289.79 HP
366.55 TQ

To the wheels and no corrections made

I'll have to find a scanner so i can post it on here. it had 350TQ and more from 3K rpms and up till 5K rpms it still had 300TQ. The HP peaked the 289.79 at 4400 rpms but still had about 285HP to 5K rpms and at 5500 rpms I had 275 HP. I'm really happy with the results, especially being N/A and having TQ like a supercharged GT. I can't wait to see how it does with some cams and a better intake.

And the TQ curve is soooo sweet!! now i see why i was spinning them in 3rd at the track on street tires.:punk:

waittttt a second.. scan your dyno sheet? lol. this is pretty sweet. a guy i know has been thinking about doing a 5.4 in his stang. your numbers are NOT SAE corrected??? hmmm.

congrats on the ######s

It's definitley a great swap to do. I'll have to see about scanning it and getting it on here. But they don't correct nothing, what your car puts down, it puts down, no SAE from them and no SAE on my dyno sheet. I thought i would have gotten more TQ but i'm happy with the 366.
You can also ask Twin Tubo 330, he was there and another friend also. I didn't look at it at first, i was afraid it wouldn't be to good, but when he told me, i was like...damn thats sweet.

csledd 06-16-2006 11:17 PM

that's kinda cool.. after my last dyno im kinda weird about SAE numbers. but when i tuned for cams it was under about perfect weather conditions and it didnt add much at all to the actual numbers if anything. :)

matrixpuba 06-17-2006 03:44 AM

nice numbers!!!

It's dark and you can barley see my car. i would have taken my camcorder but i thought my camera would do fine, guess not. it's a short clip too.
Also you can hear my crappy spintechs(not recommened) mufflers, man they suck.

i'll still see about posting the dyno sheet, probably monday though. My printer/scanner is crapping out or something.

chip6990 06-17-2006 07:30 AM

chip6990 06-17-2006 07:32 AM

If you look at your dyno sheet that you posted were it says CP:SAE..
Mine says CP:STD

Hell yeah and i love it. Ignore that muffler post.

Saleen S330 06-18-2006 07:30 AM

I talked to Dan at pro-dyno and he said it's STD and not SAE, he said if it was SAE, then i would probably add 10 more HP to make it close to 300Hp to the wheels.

r3dn3ck 06-18-2006 07:43 AM

that's easy enough to figure out. See if you can find the weather for the time that you did the dyno run (time and date). If the ambient air temp was higher than about 85deg, or barometric pressure was way way low and humidity very high, then you could actually be making a very differnt number.

SAE corrections are there to bring all the atmospheric factors to an even playing field. SAE allows hippies in a park in Boulder, CO on a 50deg day to turn in results that are actually relevant to the results that I might put down at 45 feet above sea level on a 100deg day. With std ratings you are usually pretty close to SAE if the temperature, pressure, humidity and altitude are all reasonable. Since you did your run at night, I'd call it about even unless it was really hot. Some people don't like SAE corrections because it makes them feel bad when they dyno on a cold day during high barometric pressure & low humidity.

yeah it was like 80deg and i remember it was alittle humid cause i kept saying it was warm and sweating(love the south) alittle before the dyno run. Also i drove 2 1/2 hours, then drove it another 20 mins to get to Robs, it sat for an hour, then it was dyno'd, cool off/adjusting was about 6-8 mins and then another run. I acutally liked the first run i had 288.18 HP and 368.73 TQ, that's pretty good for someone with a laptop, under the carport and doing second gear runs. I almost didn't need the dyno tune, it was running a tad rich, so they leaned it back down and added somemore timing and then i got the 289 and 366.
all i know is, i'm impressed with the numbers and can't wait to see what i will have with a 5.4 intake and some cams. Also when i go to the track and everyone is like, oh a 97 non pi, heavy a$$ convertible...it's probably slow.
After i run a kick ass time on my mickey thompsons, i'll tell them it's all tire.

r3dn3ck 06-18-2006 08:56 AM

ok... with the standard correction you should be within 4% of your SAE numbers. At worst case you're making about 280/355 SAE. The humidity would have substantially impacted your output which both std and sae correct for. I would like to have seen the uncorrected numbers for comparison but I'd say you have a wickedly stout motor as it sits and ain't nobody gunna argue with 366lbs of axle snapping grunt. As soon as I see the chart I'll be able to give more insight.

I'll bet you made more than 300tq from 2000rpm onward which would make low rpm launches a lot easier.

when i talked to him about it he said if anything it would have added 10HP more to the 289HP and that would have been my SAE. I looked at the chart again and it starts at about 2800rpms and i already have almost 340TQ, so i bet i do have 300 at 2K rpms.

Damn, from 2K to 5K rpms, it's 300TQ or better....:punk:

Dang, that thing makes some crazy torque!

I sure am....maybe it will be done by then?

yeah... isn't it great. I'll have one soon just down the street from you. Almost finished gathering the last of the parts. You're sure to run into me at some point. Just look for TPS RPTS.

SlickSilverVert 06-20-2006 11:34 AM

Hey man thats awesome - how much that setup end up costing you?

The motor was 1200 bucks and the heads were 1300 bucks. but to include all the bolt ons, suspension, and misc stuff that I bought since the car is 9 years old, your looking at $4K.

Twin Turbo 330 06-20-2006 12:50 PM

Sorry to chime in late i'm on vacation soaking up the sun. But that dyno run was awesomely impressive and i can't wait to get my motor finished now. It only cost you 4k to have supercharged numbers minus a few ponies but just imagine what a supercharger will do for you. Go 5.4L :punk:

That was a sweet dyno run. I might have to get cams soon:punk:
We plan on going to the track next Wed, can't wait to go!!!

I'll be sure to look for you....and stay out of your way with that kind of torque! ha ha ha.....we'll have to meet up sometime so I can see that beast!
How much potential HP & tq can you get out of the 5.4 engines? Man I wish I could get that kind of torque out of my little 4.6 without doing crazy mods
