Crappy 60ft on stickies
 

I've been running my car for the past few weekends at the track with M/t et streets inflated at 18 i even tried all the way down to 15 psi but my 60ft times have sucked:(. I havent been able to get under 2.1 or anything around there. I've tried revving to 2.5k then dump the clutch and nothing and i've even done 3k then dump the clutch and still nothing. What could be the cause:confused:? Am I just not revving it enough still? or what? I ran 9.2's at the 1/8th and like 14.2 on the 1/4 mile. My r/t arent that bad any ideas? What's the highest these cars can handle on launching without really risking breaking the rear end?

what are you on? GT or a V6? Suspension may be a good guess.. your wheels hopping some still? Whats the MPH? Maybe just some more practice with the car..different type of tire...different feeling as far as racing it at the track goes..

If you're on an 8.8... you aren't going to break that rear end. Simply put.

On a 7.5...with a hard enough launch, you might.

Gt rear suspension is pretty much stock but i dnt really feel much wheel hop with the stickies. How do I know if I have an 8.8 rear? Don't all Gt's have an 8.8 rear end? At the 1/4 mile it was 97 or 98 mph if am not mistaken.

Ok then yes you have a 8.8 if you're on a GT. Only reason I asked was because I wasn't sure if you had a v6 or not. I think you should be running quicker on your MPH then what you are.. and thats just stock.

Take it to the track a few more times, maybe these guys with a manual transmission can help you out some more.. but from what I'm reading, it looks like it may be driver error at the moment. There is no reason why you should be running that slow in a GT with what you've got.

You should probably be launching closer to 4k, and slipping the clutch out. I have quite a bit of suspension/ rear end mods, so I launch closer to 5k, but I don't know that I would recommend it with everything being stock.

I don't think your E/T or miles per hour is really all that far off, that is pretty much what the GT's run stock. I was trapping just barely over 100 in the 1/4 and I've got quite a bit of work done to the car.

heat up the meats with a nice burnout, stage a bit shallow, wind it up to 4500 or so and roll into the gas as aggressively as you can without blowing the tires off. Keep your foot mostly on the gas during the shifts.

dumping it at 2.5 and 3k rpms is not enough rpms at all to make the car go without bogging it. Unless you have 31spline axles and posi do not dump the clutch at higher rpms it will break an axle or the posi unit will tear the spider gears apart.

Rev it to 4,500rpms or 5,000rpms and don't pop the clutch, but rather let it out quickly while you give it throttle. A little bit of tire spin is gonna happen and that is ok as it will keep the rpms up. Pratice it more and you should be able to pull 1.8x and less 60 foot times. I did many 1.9x 60 foot times on crappy nitto drags with stock gears. So you have a better tire and more gear to keep from bogging.

So try that and do work.

Two questions for you, #1 How much tire spin do you have at launch and #2 what kind of clutch do have?

I agree with all the above, all cars are different and you will have to find what works for yours. 2500 aint gonna get it at the drag strip. You are there to abuse the car a little and maybe break it (hope not, but there is always that chance) 4500 and hot tires should do it. Pay attention to the clutch during the run (chatter, slipping, or smelling) leaving like Spike said should get you down the track. Make sure you cool down between runs on a stock clutch. Good Luck

Its an auto parts performance clutch... I know not the best but I gots it for free lol. I plan to upgrade when it goes. How long should i let it cool down for? When I have been launching I usuallly don't spin i bog down nasty and finally get going but I guess thats due to me practically dumping the clutch instead of slipping it out.

I don't seem to have any bogging problems, even when I dump the clutch, but I'm loading up to about 4500-5k... I have a king cobra clutch with a steeda quick release quadrent and firewall adjuster, so there isn't a whole lot of 'slip' in my clutch setup lol.

Like I said your rpms are way to low to be doing that.

Exactly and you said not to go any higher and dump bcuz my axles or gears willl shit out on me right? So now I plan to rev it up higher to around 4k at least and slip it out. Hopefullly all goes well friday night when I'll be at the track testing out my new zex kit w/ a 75 shot. I wont be launching on the bottle though...:o

You can do it and I know people who do, but its a toss up weither it will break or not. There are guys who have tons of passes with hard launches who no breakage, and I have seen guys break axles with Nitto Drag radials. So its up to you what you wanna do there. Just rev her up to 4-4,500rpms and feather that clutch out and throttle. Its better to slip it so it doesn't shock the drivetrain then dump it. So just practice and see how it goes.
